If you have a ps5 a 4tb is well worth it if you want to not have to delete and redownload games. If you have a ps portal this is a must have

Garbo prices. Bring back the 2023 surplus prices back!

Thanks for your efforts and posts regardless though, Phoinix.

What was the better price for a quality 4TB SSD like this in 2023?

I'm in no rush. Just hate deleting games every time I install one. What should I hold out for?

Sadness. I bought myself an Intel Optane 1.5TB drive just a few days ago. Still within return policy but I think I'll keep it. Running pretty well. I don't think I need NMVE 4. Still using gen 3 NVMEs for my storage + 20TB NAS.

If you need additional storage then you don't really need this fast drive sequential drive. Barely any noticeable difference between gen 3 and gen 4.

Looked up my receipts. Made a couple SSD buys in 2023:

9/6/23: B&H Crucial MX500 4TB SATA $179.99
5/17/23: Amazon Crucial P3 1TB NVME $45.80

Speaking mostly for the 1TB & 2TB versions, though the 4TB has seen lower prices from Amazon and other places at random times of the year too (at least for the non-heatsink version). The comparable 4TB WD SN850X has also fallen in the lower 200s range if you wanna compare apples to apples too.

I guess it depends on what system you're talking about (PC? PS5?) and what you currently have vs. your budget. Some lower tier DRAM-less 4TB gen4s can be found for under $200 if you want to gameble with some no-names. The better brands can sometimes get close to $200, but a lot less budge this year (if I recall) due to some factory shenanigans with NAND earlier this year; might've made that up.

PC for me. Have a prebuilt that came with a 1TB M2. Don't even know if it's gen3 or gen4. Don't play much. Just know I need more space. I want 4TB and prefer $200 or less. Is that wishful thinking?

Edit: Wait, nah those aren't comparable at all to the 990 Pro. One is a SATA drive, the other is a lower end gen4 nvme. Those aren't good comparisons.
looking at my old invoices, i got a better comparison with this wd black sn850x: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...2CHH/?th=1

now: $264
12/23: $230
