Drinkable. Got a ton of these at $5 for the same 2lb pack a couple years ago.

At this price point, I think i prefer similarly priced lavazza. Even if all started at the same quality, lavazza's better package ensures drinkable bean for longer period of time.

If I wanted to just chew the beans while I work for the caffeine kick, would this be a good brand for that?

How fresh was the coffee.
Once in a blue moon I get dark oily beans.

They were fine. But as I said, the packaging is not great so won't last for more than several months

Can't you just put it in an airtight container? Going thru the effort of grinding beans, so why not?

I read somewhere that you can freeze coffee beans, and they'll last a lot longer.

Definitely don't do that. Just an air tight container in a cool dark place

Agreed.
I'd probably say that SF Bay is generally better coffee but you do need to drink it right away.
I've been drinking Lavazza pretty much since I picked up my coffee habit, but Fog Chaser is a great blend.

That isn't the issue.
The SF beans will age while on the shelf and during transport.
This means that if they're already a few months old when you receive them, you're going to taste the difference. And when ordering through Amazon it's not uncommon to receive stuff that is 6+ months old. Even a year old sometimes.
It also means they need to be consumed more or less immediately upon receiving them.

SFB coffee is very good but I now have a super auto coffee machine and SFB coffee beans are oily...so sadly no go for me.

Thanks, I try to stay away from oily beans that tend to clog my grinder.
