The -$100 is Amex offer of $100 off when you spend $500. So you'd use both Chase and Dell if you have them. Dell site lets you split the payments

Yes, that is the reason, timings are apparently tricky so best to keep exact matches for the pairs.

I did the same to keep my chips paired. My scenario is easier as my son also bought one of these PCs so I told him its his choice whether he keeps the two Dell RAM sticks vs the two Crucial I have on order and we split the $80 upgrade cost:

i bought the original 1499 deal that had 2x 8gb sticks so bought 2x16gb sticks separately.

When the new $1399 deal came out i cancelled the old order and ordered the new one so didn't realize i only needed 1 16gb stick.

plus i'm not sure whether it's ok to mix and match different ram sticks.
