About this item:
  • The Primer trail bike is the most versatile model in our range. With 140mm of rear travel and 150mm up front, we have designed a bike that is capable and balanced but also nimble and fun at the same time, giving you confidence on long, all-day rides, jumps, or laps in your local woods.
  • The frame is the heart and soul of any bike. Our Primers are built around our perfectly designed monocoque carbon frame, with a dual-strut design rear triangle, optimized carbon fiber layup, a carbon top link, and adjustable 'Flip Chip" technology.
  • The Primer 275 has a 'Flip Chip' feature which allows you to alter your bike's geometry between two positions. The High setting is best in technical terrain, while the Low is more suitable for flow and bike park-style riding.
  • We talk about JS Suspension a lot here at INTENSE. JS stands for Jeff Steber (our founder and CEO); simply put, it is a sophisticated suspension system that uses two counter-rotating links to connect the front and rear triangles of the bike. The links are precisely placed to separate the pedaling and braking forces from the suspension performance. Every model in our range has its own personal and specific JS tune.

If you're looking for a 27.5 trail bike i don't think there's anything on the market that will beat this spec.
Carbon fiber frame. (31 lbs 15 oz // 14.48 kg)
Excellent suspension for the price 140 - 150.
Eagle NX 1x12 transmission.
TRP Evo 4 piston hydraulic brakes.
Dropper post.
Very nice deal for a carbon frame full suspension mountain bike.
This absolutely sold for 4600 during the pandemic. Now, it's harder to say what the real price will be. It's a GREAT time to be buying a bike! The only knock on this one is the 27.5 wheelsize, which is actually a benefit on the right trails. 27.5 is by no means obsolete, and is actually better for many types of terrain than 29, but only you can determine if it's right for you.

This is the older non-UDH version. Still a steal at this price, but something to keep in mind.

Then I would lessen your budget and focus on learning the hobby first and see if you like it...else you can drop 4k on bike, and then sell it to me for 2k after quiting 😁

I own the 29 version of the same year. It is legit. I use on trails and at Whistler. I did upgrade the brakes and other components over the years.

I have this in a 29" version under their 951 banner. It's a fantastic bike. The frame is light but very stiff. The JS tuned suspension (DW Link) is great for small bump feel and bigger hits too. it rides similar to the Santa Cruz VPP and the setup creates a virtual pivot point just like the SC does.

If I were to buy this, I would likely turn it into a Mullet. While I do love the nimble feel of a 27.5 bike, the 29" rollover ability is undeniable. Thus, the mullet is the best of both worlds. I would assume that would require a fork upgrade (I can't see if it's a 29/27.5 fork or just a 27.5), but otherwise, this frame can be mulletted.

The weak parts here are the NX drivetrain. It's OK, but it uses a HG hub and that limits you. They are heavier and this is a pretty lightweight trail bike, so something to consider. Upgraded my wheels/hub/cassette and landed on SRAM GX, which I think is the sweet spot for price/value/performance.

I upgraded my wheels to DT Swiss 1700s with 350 hubs. This comes with great wheels and hubs and they don't need to be upgraded if you keep the 27.5 setup. Overall, very good deal on an older but amazing frame.

Agreed, great bike at a great price. From the pics it doesn't look like there's much room on the fork below the arch to accomdate a 29" wheel.

I bought one of those intense 951 Trail at Costco last year for $2k and recently started to take it out after buying a bike hitch finally.

I find the seat to be extra hard to sit on and feel really sore after only 15 mins of riding.

Does anyone have a softer seat that they can recommend to allow me to ride for longer?

I used to ride, a lot, but back in the late 80s to mid 90s.

First, it is very important to make sure your saddle is properly aligned. Once that is set, you will be less sore the more you ride. I was doing up to 50 miles a day on what was basically a piece of suede stretched over a plastic frame. Maybe a little padding between the suede and plastic, but not much. The more you ride, you just get used to it and it no longer hurts.

But, it is important to make sure your saddle is aligned properly, not leaning too far forward or rearward.

I've no experience with full suspension bikes so I'm sure their set up is much different than my old hard tail cross country bike and old steel road bike.

Every new rider thinks the seats are too hard.
1) Bike fit is important so the right parts of your bottom are touching the right parts of the seat.
2) You'll get better at riding and thus more time when your butt is supposed to touch the seat and less time when it isn't. Your butt should only really be on the seat when climbing or non aggressively pedaling on flat terrain. Most beginners have their butt on the seat too much. Use that dropper post and ride in attack position.
3) Most riders wear a chamois (butt pad) on medium to longer rides. I usually wear mine on 5+ miles but find myself wearing it less and not regretting it.
