The review you are reading is considering it being priced at $500, so it's comparing it to a $549 Thrustmaster Warthog (without mounts).
Other reviews have stated it's on par with the currently $169 at amazon Thrustmaster T.16000 HOTAS - but that doesn't come with desk mounts, a high quality metal pair like this (without thin metal or sharp edges) runs around $129 on Amazon. So $220 here vs $300 for the Thrustmaster equivalent quality HOTAS w/ equivalent quality mounts.
When you factor in the desk mounts ($129 value), you are only paying $90 for the stick/throttle itself. Yeah it's not as good as a Thrustmaster Warthog, but that is basically 3x the price once you figure in the mount cost, so irrelevant comparison given the $220 bundle cost here. and don't forget 3 free DLC planes, too, which aren't cheap either if you play that game
if you don't want the desk mounts then it's not as good of a deal. but I'm not sure why you wouldn't since it's the best way to play with these type of controllers

- Accurate inputs and plenty of control options
- Mounts are excellent
- Metal toggle switches on the throttle base are satisfyingly chunky
Against- Cheap plastics and materials used in all the wrong places
- Gritty-feeling throttle control
- Doesn't feel like a high-end product, despite the high-end price
This is not on the same level as Thrustmaster. It has bad to mid reviews most places.
It aims to soar, but thanks to those cheap materials and that gritty throttle movement, the truth is it sends you crashing back to Earth at an alarming rate. And if you want my advice? Time to bail out, and look for a safe place to land elsewhere.

The box weighs over 20lbs, and both units feel super solid. Are they metal? No, they are mostly plastic. But heavy plastic. To me this seems better than the mid-range Thrustmaster/Logitech like the T.16000 and X56. I don't feel "slop" in any of the controls. It does not have metal like some of the $600+ stick/throttle combos, but I think we can agree none of us here are flying an actual F15, so solid-feeling plastic is fine. The mounts are super sturdy. If I had to complain about one thing it would be the smoothness of the throttle action - or maybe just the sounds it makes as it moves smoothly but feels like plastic rubbing on plastic - but not a major concern given the rest of the package for $220.
Overall an awesome purchase. If you need a HOTAS don't miss this deal!!
Couple of tips:
1) if you have issues with detection, try a different USB port
2) download the hori software and update firmware ASAP
3) if you have a razer tartarus it may conflict with the stick
