Cables like these are a great option for intentionally slow overnight charging using a 5V 500mA or 5V 1A USB-A charger adapter (such as the original Apple pack-in charger).

Good luck!

Good price. I'd pay a buck for this.. too bad I'm not a new woot customer.
I always think of new customer deal like "f your loyalty" sales. I don't appreciate it, woot.

Lmao. Time to make more accounts for new-user-coupons.

I wonder if you helped Woot sell to Amazon - inflated their customer base size purely to get BoC drops.

I mean, comparing the price to Walmart, $5 isn't a bad price for one of these either.

Woot, Spectrum, Verizon... They're all the same. Give breaks, discounts, free stuff to new customers, do zero for loyal years old customers, decades old customers... And yeah, before some dimbulb says "it's to get new customers", yeah, I get it. Loyalty gets you nothing with these greedy conglomerate corporations.

The USB-A form factor is definitely part of the limitation for fast charging speed, but there's still a huge variance in charging performance depending upon the source (charger), the device being charged, and the support specifications (and compliance within those specifications). I'm unaware of the specific restrictions implemented in this cable (particularly as to whether it signals the 1.5A limit). So more generally, the maximum charging current for a USB-A to USB-C could be as high as 2.4A (the limit supplied by compliant USB-A), or 1.5A (the limit enforced by complaint USB-A to USB-C cables), 900 mA (a limit typically enforced by USB 3 USB-A ports), 500 mA (a limit typically enforced by USB 2 USB-A ports) down to even 100 mA (the base level current to be supplied in USB-A). Since a compliant USB-A port would also typically be delivering a voltage of 5V, this could mean that the charging power could range from 0.5W all the way up to 12W (with the latter potentially risking a burnt out connector/cable).

Some standards like QuickCharge will alter the voltages available at a USB-A charging port, but often limit the currents at those higher voltages to stay within the same power range.

So that's a lot of words to say that for USB-A charging you should stick to using a compliant charging source (1.5A or lower) which generally restricts this kind of cable (USB-A to USB-C) to 7.5W charging or slower. Great for overnight, but nothing anyone would call fast.

Good luck!
Jon

I use the same USB-A to USB-C cable to record from my DJI Action 4 to Laptop without issue.
