Decent price for this. Warranty makes refurb purchase worth it

why does ecoflow seem to have a nearly endless supply of refurbished units?

are these things failing higher than people are being led to believe by the social media influencers carrying their water in exchange for free product? are amazon reviews being padded by ecoflow with free product?

what's going on?

I think you're right. From reading reddit r/ecoflowcommunity, its power station failed pretty often and their customer service is pretty much unresponsive. Otherwise, where did so many of these refurbished come from? 🙂

I don't know the why I have had mine for almost a year (refurb) but I will say the app WAS buggy and also on this specific unit you not only have to turn on the device you also have to manually turn on the 120V outlet bank. It is a horrible user design (IMHO) once I had a power outage and my sump wasn't working come to find out I did not manually power up the 120V rail. There is also a separate AC and device timeout settings and that can be confusing. The app has improved but you cannot remotely control on of of the device or AC rail. I think I paid like $279 or $289 for it, no regrets yet. So it seems this device's biggest failure (to me) is poor UX and functional design. The batteries are LFP.

The other issue (maybe) is this unit cannot be expanded with an external battery. What you see is what you get.

In any case this thing has great capacity (you can tell it to charge to 90% to save battery life) and I use it a BBU on my sump pump and it handles the surge from it no problem so I am happy. So if you are looking for a non UPS backup then this may fit the bill. (UPS backup comes in the gen 3).

so perhaps the reason for all of the refurbs are bricked units due to app/firmware issues? once ecoflow gets the return, they reflash the firmware with most up to date version, test it, clean it, re-package it, and re-sell it?

i am just curious b/c ecoflow seems to have a nearly endless supply of refurbs for a select handful of models

My theory is that this specific device was heavily overpriced. It's like $600 and NON upgradable. The Delta 3 for instance is $50 more, had 1 kWh and has UPS-like functionality. I'm sure the usability/firmware also caused a lot of returns, which the other River 2 products do not have. Mine had a slight marring on the case side when I received it but pretty much was unused and the battery capacity was 102% when I measured it out of the box. So I don't know exactly how old the battery was but it was above nominal so I am not complaining.

Also this specific model is marketed w/ solar panels and was often bundled. If you have ever dealt w/ solar you know to temper your expectations, so this specific river 2 model may fall under poor client satisfaction being bundled w/ solar panels.

I track the industry and LFP and lithium prices (even lower) are plummeting 40-50% this year so we will be entering a phase of cheap storage soon enough and older products with dubious pricing today they will either cycle out with heavy discounts or do the old tool "scratch and dent" clear them out without disrupting the retail supply chain. I just checked this won't be in stock until late Oct and

I got this back in June. Paired it with my BougeRV portable fridge and love it. we keep it in the back of my wifes car. Has come in handy multiple times for grocery runs + errands, Or doing something after dinner where we want to keep leftovers cold. Even saved kids ice cream once by setting it to freeze. Ecoflow stays plugged in to 12v and topped off. turn on fridge only when needed.
