Elite is certainly the better constructed of the two and it looks/feels a lot more premium all-around (also comes with a built in rgb/fan controller), but the glass panel completely blocks front airflow which makes the H7 flow significantly better of the two cooling wise. A front mesh makes a HUGE difference, that's why I ultimately ditched my O11D, I could not get enough fresh air in (side and bottom intakes were pretty limited). So It completely depends what you are looking for. I expect cases to fall in price since the past few gens of PC building have been very lackluster due to all the issues with CPUs, pricing, not getting much upgrade for the buck, etc. All that being said, this is a great deal.

The elite is also on sale at $89. I know a lot of reviews out there say the flow is better because of price, sound, and cooling. But with the price now pretty similar, which would you recommend?

I just bought the H5 rgb a few days ago for $120 which I thought was a steal since the 360 is going for something like $70 by itself, this is great for anyone wanting a white case.

I like the elite better, the flow looks like any other mesh case, and elite is the actual glass and high quality metal, I enjoy disassembling my pc now because parts feels very high end

I have no issues with heat on my 7800x3rd, 4070 ti super, with elite case, 70C+- under load/50C idle so I always wondered why people choose that mesh option to what ? Have a freezer pc ? lol but I get that everyone have different config, location and air flow….
Those aren't terribly hot components when vs 4080 +4090 and 13/14th i7 + i9.

But regardless, the one thing that is missing in so much conversation on cooling is the noise of the fans. All decent cases can more than likely cool the hotest components to not throttle if you have fans that can let loose. My fans max out at I think 60% applied through software because I don't want my pc to be terribly noisy (in general + i have open back headphones)

On the subjective side, if you don't want to show off your components/spend time tidying, mesh is actually better since you can't see the mess that is the cable situation within the case.

Now, I just need to find a motherboard, processor, RAM to build my PC. Any good recommendations for a good motherboard for AMD?

alright SD team - I haven't built a pc since 2002 when a 100mhz pentium with integrated video card was hip.
Can anyone point me to a good place to research what i need to build/buy a rig that will outperform a PS5 for Fortnite? I am considering a PC for my kid for Christmas and Fortnite is his main interest. I am fine building or even just buying something pre-built if it is more cost effective. I'm not trying to take over the world with this thing, but if I'm going to do it, I want it to be better than a PS5 (which we already have).

I say, go for the elite. I have the elite myself. My system is a 13900k, 4090, and 1200 heat machine but it still manages to have good thermals. Yes the flow is better for airflow but the elite is perfectly fine.

Got the elite. Great time for a new build since new CPUs and GPUs are about to be released.

PC part picker. You can customize each component to see what is compatible and compare pricing. Just be sure to come back to SD for deals on the parts you pick.

got this case a couple of months ago, at $100, i wouldn't buy it again even at $80.

the biggest problem was the center motherboard standoff mount being higher than all of the surrounding mounts, which is something that i've never seen before, and i've been doing this since the '80's... my first job out of jc was at kaypro.

you can put a standoff in a vise and grind it down, but not with any precision, the mb will not be perfectly flat but it's better than nothing.

the fans are 3-pin and noisy, can't spin 'em down enough with the motherboard controller, i had to add an in-line resister with every fan to slow it down.

no fan controller included with this case, fortunately i didn't need it.

it would depend on which variant you owned; the O11D EVO RGB($159 not on sale) for instance will take three 140mm fans on either top, bottom, or side, which is an insane amount of airflow, especially when paired with 30mm-thick 140mm fans like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...HR59/?th=1

in general, a bigger case volume will take longer to heat up, so go big if you want cool temps.

imho the object should be to build a quiet case that will last thru multiple builds, so getting quality thicker fans and a better brand like lian li or fractal design ends up being quieter and cheaper in the long run.
