It will unlock automatically once it reaches 60-days. However, it must be activated for clock to be start ticking. I heard you dont need to pay full 60-days, just a first month is good to go. all the tracfone owned - Verizon wireless prepaid are in same way.

With the Moto G Power deal I had to call them because it it didn't unlock automatically. Told them I would like to use the esim for travel. This Moto problem had special problems with unlock, so maybe this device unlocks on it's own. Maybe someone else can commend.

It should. The criteria for unlocking is that it's activated. And you activated the phone. On day 61, Auto Unlock shall proceed. I've done at least 20-30 unlock with Verizon Tracfone Straight Talk (all 60 days) and Metro(365days now) etc. they've all been unlocked on time.

I am already with straight talk but am in need of a new phone. Would I be able to switch this phone to my current number as soon as I activate it?

That was massive case that affected almost everyone that purchased it at that time. They changed the unlock method or something, but eventually fixed it (took weeks though).

That being said, I never had problems with their other devices unlocking. Most of their moto phones didn't have problem unlocking until that one.

This phone is pretty slow and crappy. I got one from a previous Metro deal. Fine for a backup or burner at this price, but set your expectations accordingly.
