LOLOL Some of the people on here WOULD BE, if they didn't buy every slick deal that hit the front page!

OR....

Depends on how you calculate your net worth! I normally do not include my "stockpile" of assorted items purchased at a discount. For some SDers, including their stockpile would probably change their net worth significantly. Especially if you value those assets at "full price!" (ex. 100 tubes of Colgate toothpaste... do you value that at the $50 acquisition cost, or at the $479 retail value?)

Gen X'er here— for many years financial advisors would say you needed about a million in your 401k to draw down at 4% per year and combine with social security in order to retire. Sadly, in the past few years they have moved the goalposts to $1.4M. Guess "The One Point Four Millionaire Mind" just doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Read this long ago. Bill Bernstein's If You Can and The Coffee House Investor are also good. Compound interest is a wonderful thing. Most people don't have enough discipline to save. Basic financial concepts and teaching when young are paramount.

As a multimillionaire one tip is to be able to identify problems and figuring a solution.

As a human, one tip for continued success as a human is to be able to identify problems and figuring a solution.

Very true. I wear a $30 watch and drive a 23 year old car. My liquid assets (stocks, mutual funds, and cash) are over $1.2 million.

I read this in my early 20's. Changed the way I think about money and view wealth. It was solid advice and probably still worth reading

Exactly. 42 and similar situation. Now, "it's not what you make, it's what you keep" is valuable insomuch as you aren't a minimum wage worker but SO many middle income people and a lot of Americans have zero financial education or ability to delay gratification. If you told most people on the street, if the market got 8% that their money would DOUBLE in 9 years, they wouldn't believe you. Getting above that 7 figure mark has been confidence inspiring even though the market can do anything - that principle is so valuable.

I have a family member who owns their own business and whose net worth would probably be 3-4x if they had understand what index investing would have done for them 40 years ago. Maybe more. Still has small generational wealth but it boggles the mind. It's even more important when you are a normal middle or upper middle class American.
