My 9yo daughter and my 15yo son both started this game, liked it for an hour or so, and lost interest. That surprised me considering the almost universal praise for this game. I guess it's not for everybody though.

It opens up over time which IMO is the most amazing thing about the game…that there is just so much there that's gradually unlocked with simply playing.

This is truly a gamer's game because it's just so well-crafted and designed.

So much deeper than it appears to be within the first hour of play.

Feel like that's an issue. I don't want to grind through and unenjoyable experience to get to something better. Only played the demo (same with dredge), but didn't see the potential despite the wide praise. No every game is for everyone. Stardew Valley is another example of a game I could see people hating at the start.

I've been playing this on my Steam Deck, and it's been interesting. If it was just the diving and fetch quest portions I think it would be more loved. The mix of running the business is a bit of an odd choice that is a bit disjointed... however, also done well once you learn the goal is to sell out of sushi every night and not stock items towards the end of the night.

I have four kids and they all absolutely love this game. They all wanted to help me catch fish.

I absolutely love this game. This is one of my most favorite games. It is my go-to to decompress at the end of a stressful workday and/or when I'm overwhelmed and/or when my anxiety is taking over. It allows me to disconnect from everything and just clear my mind. It is an awesome cozy game and has helped me in ways that I can't even describe. It's therapeutic af.

I eyed this game during the steam sale but didn't pull the trigger, also assuming I'd like it better on the switch.

Finally pulled the trigger on this sale and I'm glad I did! I've been having a great time with it. I've been appreciating that they have ways to add to the shallows instead of only making going deeper the only way to progress.

I wasn't sure about running the restaurant but once I was able to hire people it got significantly more enjoyable for me.

This was my experience as well. One of the few games I regret purchasing.

This is a horrible take imo. I don't think playing for more than an hour to see how the game comes together really counts as "grinding". TONS of good games takes at least an hour an for it to start really getting going. The first hour of those games are just the intro really and are often boring.
The dudes point was that the hour long demo doesn't give a good feel for the whole game overall (and why the whole game gets praised). Do you really think that it's BAD that the game changes over time and brings other depth (pun alert) and interesting stuff instead of being the same basic gameplay it was in the first hour? That makes no sense to me at all. It seems like you're just advocating for repetitive and shallow (badum tish) gameplay
