I had an old corded one, got this one (refurb from ebay a little while back), compared the two, and threw the corded one in the trash.

This one has a (to me) amazing amount of torque, compared to old one I had which always bogged down quickly. Plus, adjustable speed (the corded had only 2 settings - fast, and howl), and, of course, no cord. Battery seems to last a while, at least for my small projects, and there is a clear status indicator so no worries about running out. Of course one could get a spare battery (I believe some of the Bosch ones can be used). No need for my particular use.

I have a Dremel Max (wired) and I picked up a workpro cordless rotary (looks to be the exact same as this) for $40 and I love it. I wasn't sure it had enough power, but it does.

In fact seems to be on sale again, I would def look at workpro and save some major cash. Even batteries/etc way cheaper than Dremel.

There once was a day that these companies actually created things now they just source them out of some ODM China factory and 3x the cost and change the skin. Not really value IMHO.

Not sure about most people, but I use it for small area sanding, sharpening, deburring, drilling, surface cleaning, polishing, and most frequently, as a small cutoff tool when you need more precision and control than an angle grinder provides. The little quick change cutting wheels are pretty capable.

Yesterday I was changing my bathroom faucet and all went well until the last narrow screw that held the old faucet and was rusted solidly to the body. Not enough surface to pry it loose with a wrench. Quick work with the dremel.

Considering this is mostly used for detailed work, I'd definitely go cordless.

Is this the newest/most powerful cordless Dremel? I was going to pick up the 8300 corded because I figured it was more powerful. Going to be used for cleaning rust and stuff like that on ATV and motorcycle parts.

one site gives 8% cb for home depot. there may be better offers. HD 90 day return vs amazon 30. I'll go with HD. I used to have cordless many yrs ago. Removes some bad car scratches. Now i need it again but not this overpeiced dremel.

There are times when a corded is nice to have. Like when cutting a large piece. I have both and they are used for different tasks.

Corded dremels are okay.

The $25-30 cordless dremels for pet nails are okay as a dedicated tool.

For this price you may as well buy a bosch or milwaukee 12v rotary.

Get the warranty on this. I've gone through so many cordless dremels, they always give out after a year or two.

Not sure about Milwaukee but I have quite few Bosch 12V tools. Their batteries looked almost identical. It turned out similar enough, but did have to trim the Dremel bottom to accept the Bosch battery. Not perfect but worth doing it for letting me use my Bosch batteries. If the Milwaukee battery looks similar enough, then it could work like the Bosch assuming the polarity is the same.

Curious what most people use rotary tool for? Small detailed woodwork?
I'm in the market for one to sand down and repaint rim curb rash
