We found this too dim to be actually useful for anything beyond the very very immediate around right near/close to it (as shown in some of the photos). It will not light up a general area like other lanterns. If you want to read in the dark using this, you will struggle
It is a very long lasting lantern though, that's the trade off. It's more of a "glow light" so to speak than a lantern
Notice the title on the product page, dropping "hurricane" in it to try and get more search hits. rather pathetic
if you're a flashlight junkie, get a diffuser and set your lumens however you like, with endless 18650's or whatever you use you're set forever. They make compatible ones for most any model. I have a $3 one for my sp36 pro that works great (adjustable brightness and three 18650's with a usb-c port.. yah it's overkill and I regret buying it but as a lantern it's really amazing.)
There's a picture where some goober took a marker to dim the LEDs inside. Don't do that: The marker can cause heat buildup which will shorten the life of the LEDs, plus the ink will actually seep into the LED housing and can potentially kill the emitter. These are minor concerns on a cheap item like this, but I've seen this in high end stuff (automotive headlamps)
Anyway, there's good info in the reviews. Three LEDs. the wiring means all three fire even with 2 batteries. Another review says "there is only about a 15% difference in brightness if 2 or 4 batteries are used". They hit the voltage barrier threshold and that's it.
This thing is cheap inside, but for $6.20 it's a good deal.

Interesting that it can run of 2x AAs or 4x. Is the output lower with 2 or something? Or does it just not run for as long?

I bought one in 2022 and it worked great for Hurricane Milton when the power and Whole Home Generac generator quit after 6 hours!🤬 Just bought another for 4 cents more. Thx op, TU and repped!👏
Cool, $50 more than the 3500. My buddy had that one running and you could almost not hear it. Good for when you are trying to not let the entire neighborhood know you are running a generator.
