The 6800 also had a decent price drop. Doing 7.1.4 this is what I'd need to swap out to HDMI 2.1 from my current one. Buy now or hold out for Black Friday, or hold out to see if next gen pops at CES at full price. The eternal Q Smilie
Not sure there is any significant feature(s) to hold out for.
The 6800 came out earlier this year, other than the usual differences in higher end model, not much there in upgrades.

Even comparing this to the newer Onkyo RZ70, other than more power, it has all the same features.
Power is easily negated if you take advantage of the preouts you paid for.

People sometimes ask to include Dirac, why Audyssey is very comparable and would just be more expensive, nothing is free!
It's great to have the option though, you only pay if you choose to.

Just look at RZ50 vs RZ70, more internal power & 2 independent sub outs, that's it!
Dirac's DLBC was going to be another added feature but they will be adding it to the RZ50! 🤔🤷🏻 ♂️
Even their newest RZ30 adds nothing, not sure what they were thinking with that one also!

At this moment, the 4800 is $1499 sold by Amazon. I got it at that price last week.
Best Buy has it for that price also.

Do I need to be concerned with the overheating and flashing red light of death issues in the Amazon reviews? Otherwise this seems perfect.
Only if you don't have it properly vented. I use an aircom fan and have never had a problem.

Those aircom fans look like great products - good to know. Cheap too.
I may be off base since I'm new to trying to understand AV equipment, but it does sound off that I would need to use a fan to make a product work normally. I'm not opposed to it though - seems like an easy fix.

You don't have to if you keep it properly ventilated. For example some leave the receiver sitting out in the open or on top of furniture and that is fine. So long as a cat doesn't sleep on it or a dumb person doesn't put something on it that is. The problem though is many stuff them into cabinets with insufficient ventilation so that's when something like this or attaching exhaust fans to the sides/back of the cabinet or equipment rack would be a good idea. My fan also has a temp gauge so I can see how hot it is and it never goes over 84 so that gives me peace of mind. It's in a cabinet with a glass door but I took the back off and have the fan exhausting out the back. I'm willing to bet a lot or most of the people that have issues with these units don't have them sufficiently ventilated. Amps/electronics generate a lot of heat and too much heat will shorten lifespan for sure.

Thank you very much for this explanation.

Why this over the Onkyo RZ50? With a single sub (or even dual single channel), seems the Dirac vs the Audyssey is part of the issue, and wouldn't Dirac take the title here, newer and from all reviews seems to be the business, if only more expensive. Onkyo you also get the THX certified amp with more power. The Denon, better rep, likely deserved, and better with more subs, but if that's not your thing, why not Onkyo?

Oh great now I'm tempted at the 4800 mainly because I have best buy total tech and it's made in Japan plus the 24 month payment is great lol.

Actually you don't need to as long as you provide proper ventilation.
It will work normally as long as you do.

I stand corrected, sorry about that.
Glad this was brought up, I totally forgot I'm running in 11.2 config so the 3xxx series would actually be a step down!

Although really a 5.2.2 should be fine for most home regular sized rooms. I went overboard on the 4 atmos speakers.

The new amps supporting 4 subs seems odd. How many ppl wanted such a feature?

Well Dirac live doesn't offer their sub integration.

If you have more than one sub, you have harmonize/calibrate them prior for optimal performance, not a simple task and cost more money.
This has sub integration up to 4 independent subs included.
It works under the same principle as DLBC.

All channels are not assignable on the RZ50, they are on this.

The RZ50 has a power issue with 4&6ohm speakers, this does not.

The RZ50 doesn't have preamp mode.
This does and you can even turn off/disengage each internal amp individually.

With the new A1EVO pretty much gives you Dirac performance on this for $20.

This is rumored to be getting Dirac ART next year, this is not.

Depending on the return policy you get, might be worth getting it now and keeping it sealed in case something really slick comes during November. I'm going to hold out on mine and monitor the price over the next month. I think Amazon is only 30 days though right now. Best buy potentially 60. Buy it for store pickup, and drag it out when you actually pick it up too. $1499 is a good price. Could it go lower, maybe. Worst case $1499 is not bad at all to me.

Got mine scratch and dent for $475 shipped from Adorama in October 2023. Highly recommend DLBC and a UMIK-1 calibration mic. Audyssey MultiEQ XT32 does good with the speakers, but leaves room for improvement in the bass department. I didn't try the audyssey directional bass calibration though.

Actually this 3xxx is capable of 11.4 so a step up.

4 Atmos speakers should be mandatory if you're gonna move up to object based soundtracks to make it worthwhile in my experience.

4 subs is not odd.
They are ideal for optimal performance from the better RCs.
Having setup a few, it's pretty impressive.

I would do it but my two are pretty optimal for my layout and wouldn't add enough for the cost.
