How good are your eyes? I have a 32-inch 4K monitor, and I run it in 125% zoom mode in Windows because 4K is too small for me - for a 27" at 4K native resolution you would need *very* good eyes.

I reckon 27" 1440p is the sweet spot.
I see this a lot. I run a 4k monitor at 225% scaling with no issues. Why is there an implication that scaling shouldn't be used?

Good monitor at a price that comes around pretty often. I tend to prefer direct at Dell with CB, etc.

I've been thinking of upgrading my existing Dell monitor. I have a work laptop and a personal laptop (and sometimes a gaming PC) that I like to flip between at my desk. Right now, I have the USB devices (keyboard, mouse, and monitor speakers that hook under the monitor) connected to a USB switch, and then I toggle them when switching devices. It would be nice if the monitor could be the "hub" of all my stuff rather than needing the USB switch. Does this monitor supply downstream USB power so I can do that?

S2722QC version of this has integrated hub and goes on sale every once in awhile as well.

I run a 32" 4k as primary and a 27" 4k on the side. I would never go to a 27" as a primary.

Probably best to get the one recommended by Dell for your particular model. Third party dock may work but you also may experience more issues, and Dell won't support it.

it's not intended for gaming. it's for office work and media consumption.

I used a 27" 4k scaled to 150%. It was great, but not for my GTX 1060. Definitely doable.

As armature photographer, I need a monitor for editing photographs in lightroom. It this monitor a good choice? If no, what model should I look for?

It really comes down to scaling— 4k native will be too small for most people on anything less than 36", and pixel-doubled hidpi scaling (looks like 1080p) will be to big for most people on anything 4k bigger than 24".
Apple and Microsoft use different scaling techniques:
With Mac, 27" 4k scaled to "looks like 1440p" looks great, 32" 4k doesn't really have a scaling sweet spot (1440p is too big, but smaller looks like crap with 4k native).
Windows scaling works fine for either 27" or 32" 4k.
