Pretty mixed reviews on the Milwaukee site. Most people say they've seen almost no difference and wouldn't buy Forge again.

I think their biggest claim is that they charge to 80% in 15min, but you have to buy a separate higher amperage charger to achieve that. I bet a lot of people buy the battery and fail to get the charger it requires to perform.

Great deal OP.

Works out to $12.45/Ah - and is hackable for $111/8Ah or $138/12Ah.

Sounds like a case of bad internet comments, and people not buying the right stuff.
TTC has a good review of the 6. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTsA_4lR1a0

These are just tabless batteries so theoretically they have lower heat and you can discharge at a higher C-rate (more beans) and charge them up likewise. And tabless should be more reliable over time (heat, many, etc).

The only issue is if you make a more reliable product that costs less to produce (over time), you have to market it heavily as better to make higher profits because you don't want batteries lasting 2x as long Smilie. Either that or they just start introducing DRM or some other baloney every few years to make the older ones obsolete.

What if you design the circuit boards to die in a few years?

I assume the MTTF is outside the warranty period, but I cannot say how R&D works @ TTi but I assume they match the MTTF of the components to be > the warranty period and duty cycle. As these are targeted toward pro I would assume they are robust at least in gen 1 (before they cut corners and cost).

I have some Dewalt reman packs from 2016 still chugging along. I use m12 not m18 so I am not qualified on D2D for that line and any comment would be bs from me.

Unless the tools are uncapped or setup to work with Forge you won't see a difference in tool performance. The tools that are setup to use the Forge batteries have massive gains with them over the regular batteries. The old 0880 vacuum allegedly gets supercharged from the larger batteries but I haven't tried it myself. I have a few tools that will get increased output from a forge battery but I have enough of the larger capacity batteries already so for me the Forge line is just a nice to have.

I will say that there are tons of tools you can buy with the new forge battery and return the battery for a good savings on the tool. I'll be doing that return trick for at least 1 tool for sure.

That page will give you the full list of M18 stuff you can get with the forge battery for free.

I'm looking for power for the M18 Fuel circular saw, and also M18 Fuel Blower. Which battery is better? The Forge HD 12.0? Or the Forge XC 8.0? HD or XC?

This is a crazy deal. Tabless cells arent anything new. They were just extremely expensive to manufacture. But the main benefit of tabless cells is that the current collectors are almost directly in contact with the +/- of the battery. This means a very short path for the electrons to travel within the cell. This is how you get the insane discharge currents. The cells used in these forge 8/12ah are the 4AH 21700 cells from Ampace. They rate their cells at 45a continuous and 65a surge. But you can easily surpass 100amps continuous (30 seconds or so) and it will hold that current with a good voltage. I take apart all my batteries to conformally coat the PCB. When I did so, the build quality of these forge batteries was amazing! They use Nylon with glass fibers similar to the tool itself as case material. Anyhow, this is a crazy deal!
