It's made by MaxDigitalData. Where is the origin of the product? Is it the OEM for Seagate or WD? Or, is Seagate or WD made these hard drives?

"...MDD - which is a white label brand owned by Goharddrive - sources stocks of what looks like new but EOL (end of line) hard disk drives as well as refurbished stock."

I'm guessing they actually test these for bad sectors. The 12tb drives had a 5 year warranty, cheaper, but didn't guarantee no bad sectors.

The only thing you really need to know about this drive is that they are obscuring exactly what it is by slapping a weird label on it.

I've been looking for a good storage solution for my NAS. Does anyone have experience with the refurbished drives from this seller? Are they reliable?

MDD doesn't make drives.
Is just a rebrand, based on the design of top cover and PCB its most likely a Seagate.
Which brings a question how bad a branded drive has to be get it's labeled removed aka is not good enough to be sold as original and different label be slapped on.

There are only 4(5) drive manufacturers left.
WD
HGST (former Hitachi) now part of WD, but still has distinct design. So I could it as separate
Seagate
Toshiba
Fujitsu (only makes 2.5 inch and smaller on tiny scale, maybe it's gone by now or soon)

I had bad sectors on 1 of my 12tb drive when it arrived. They immediately sent me a free return shipping label. I mailed it back and they sent me a replacement with no hassle.

How do they test the hard drive to get 0 Bad Sectors if the drive is never powered on (0 Power Hour)?

They are resetting the SMART data as part of the process so it resets the power on hours counter.

If they pass a full burn in/verification test they are like any other refurb, only trust with additional redundancy.

They may claim to scan but its short scan no doubt, a real scan takes about 2 days, so basically you get to do the QC work at this price.

They look like Seagates. Price per TB is not as good as the 12TB drives out there.
