I'm typing my message on this exact Chromebook. I bought it for $250 back in the summer. It has been great, though as mentioned above, a backlit keyboard would be nice.

It comes with a year of Gemini Advanced and 2 TB of storage. When I tried to activate the offer, I got a cryptic message about my account not being eligible. After a useless exchange with Google Support that took over a week, they ended by saying the device was not eligible. English comprehension ain't their strong suit! I finally figured out that it was because my Google account was part of a Google Family group. I had to disassociate the account to activate the trial.

You can re-create the Family Group after activating the trial and share the 2 TB. I saw a message that you can only do this once a year. It looks like they updated and clarified the terms of the offer to mention the problem I encountered.

Recommended. I installed their Linux support and can run Signal Desktop, Brave and Reaper in that environment.

On the question about media, the internal speakers don't get too loud, but they're fine along with the mic for Google Voice calls. The headphone jack works well with my KRK headphones, plenty of volume and clear. I can cast from Chrome, YouTube and YouTube Music to my TV with Chromecast built-in.

Brightness is fine for indoors. I lower the brightness at night. Probably 200 or 250 nits.
If you're an existing Chromebook owner, check the perks that are available to you. This showed up in mine and takes $50 off this deal in my cart:

As a device for my elderly mother-in-law, I think Chromebooks are great. I used to get calls about malicious pop-ups and error messages all the time with Windows 10. With a Chromebook, I maybe get a call every 6 months or so. Best Christmas gift we could have gotten her (to preserve my sanity).

I'd prefer a backlit keyboard to touch panel for the same price point, but that's just me. Good deal for those who this works for, especially with Costco's purchase advantages. TU

Excellent price if you want one now . I think the biggest draw for the chromebooks is the battery life with the price but with all the super efficient Lunar Lake /X elite chips hitting the market , I think in couple of years you can get the same efficiency/price in a Windows device with better app support.

Is "Plus" a model name, or does this qualify as a "Chromebook Plus" by Google?

Installing Brave is definitely the way to go. Chrome is mutilating extensions and adblockers now with the Manifest v3 push.

I had to deinstall Linux on my old Chromebook due to a lack of storage (16 GB eMMC). By contrast the 512 GB SSD in this one is massive. I think 128 GB is more typical for cheaper Chromebook Plus models.
