This is one of those games that has good cross appeal between board game lovers and their ambivalent friends. I'm in the latter camp, but the rules are fairly simple and the birds are very nice to look at. The digital versions also include the authentic bird noises

This is my families favorite game. It is a rare animal, as the expansions make it better and better. There are also future planned expansions for cards.

Great game! I found this at a WalMart on clearance last fall for $35 and then $30... so this is the best price I've seen it since then. although it was VERY uncommon clearance (having 2 walmarts in town, south one had it and a bunch of others on clearance and the north had them normal priced... #shrug)

Don't hesitate at this price if you're interested at all. Far and away, one of the best games ever made.

And grab the free Wingsong app to have birds you collect sing to you: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/win...1533477533

I wouldn't describe the rules as fairly simple. There are lots of nuances to the rules, and to comprehend the strategy is a whole second level of understanding. This is not a casual game, IMO, though it is enjoyable.

I second this. I bought this game a few years ago because I'm a fan of birds... Eventually we thought we had a free evening and would dig in... I don't think we even got it fully set up before we realized there was no way we were going to pick up this game and play it that night and did something else instead. I think I remember comments that it's helpful to watch YouTube videos to learn how to play. We have not deemed it worth the time to learn in a couple more years since. Reaching for a puzzle or deck of cards always seems so much easier.

Would you call it a "rara avis"?

I agree. It's very easy for people to misinterpret what a card does. Even a single word (such as the presence/absence of "may") can have significant implications. It's a great game but I would not describe it as simple.

This is one of those games where going in blind, if you're not accustomed to engine builders, can be a teeny bit overwhelming for casual players. So I recommend at least one person have a good understanding of the game which can make teaching while playing easy breezy.

No disrespect, but this screams out that you are not a boardgamer. What I mean by that is I would never introduce someone who doesn't play boardgames to this one. It is not easily picked up and what you described above, is exactly where most non-boardgamers would end up, overwhelmed and ultimately disinterested.

I always encourage non-boardgamers to start with more accessible games like Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, Splendor or Sheriff of Nottingham. A game like Wingspan would fall into the next category of difficult following all of those games. Those other games would give you a foundation of playing mechanics which will eventually make Wingspan an easier game to learn.

And yes, definitely learn the rules to all boardgames by watching a "How it's Played" video on YouTube.

This is easily an 11/10 game and I don't have much interest in birds at all. The format and the rules are incredibly well laid out and the artwork is beautiful across the board. Watching the beginner guide videos can be a bit intimidating at first, but the game is easy enough to get the hang of after an initial round. I would highly recommend this game at the MSRP and especially so at this price.

I'm not seeing the target circle deal to clip on the product page. I'm a circle member and already have the circle card. Do you need to have the circle 360 membership? Or am I missing something?
