Sorry, but I totally disagree. The more people that are developing in the space, the better. Nothing is holding back VR. If you pay attention to the most popular reviewers, you would know that the industry is maturing well. There are a ton of fantastic games. How can you be a VR game studio owner and not know this? Look at Steam. It has over 100,000 games. Are most high quality? No. The developers develop, the market decides. This is the free market, the more people involved, the better.
This is the problem with Oculus VR. It has become farking cell phone games. It's bloated with 99% shovelware. That is what is holding VR back and I say this as a VR game studio owner.

A lot of of these are cheap but one of the more expensive ones - the exorcist Legion game - has very good reviews and actually sounds so scary I'm not sure I wanna play it.

You're the only one illuded by what the Quest ecosystem is.
All of the headsets are phone hardware running on Android OS, so of course there's a certain caliber of games that are tailored for it.
If you don't want to play any of the games that are designed to run on it, the solution is pretty obvious.
Kung Fu Crazy is easily worth $1.50. Not a lot of depth but it's fun for a workout game and works well.
Not from this list but some my favorites:
Racket Club (I play almost every morning)
Pistol Whip
Beat Saber
Walkabout Mini Golf
In Death
Arizona Sunshine
Blaston
Crisis Brigade 2
Zero Caliber 2
Half-Life: Alex

Thanks! Just got Kung Fu and worked up a sweat in 10 minutes in training.

It's unfortunate, as Meta always allowed these 'junkware' games but kept them behind an 'App Labs' category that didn't clutter the games feed. They got rid of that earlier this year and let anyone publish their games directly to the store without any real curation which led to it becoming similar to the Nintendo Switch with these $0.10 games trying to jump to the top of the charts by offering 99% off coupons.
