What is Next Gen considered? Is it the newest version of Kobalt line? Or the same as the original Kobalt line. I have the XTR's they make but not quite sure what Next Gen means.

Next gen is the latest non-XTR power tools, released since late 2022. In order to differentiate from older generations (from 5-10 years ago), which are being replaced with this "Next Gen" line.
No tool brand seems to have figured out how to differentiate each generation of tools well for the consumer. Probably because not every tool is replaced at the same rate and model numbers don't market well.

Pretty sure that you can tell next gen Kobalt by the boxes being blue compared to previous generation grayish box. XTR has black boxes from what I remember.

Lowes has done a good job of upgrading since switching to brushless. Tool line will handle nearly anything a home-gamer can throw at them.

Yep. I've had no issue with lug nuts while using this at home. Also busted a stuck/rusted seat bolt loose that was darn tough.

The XTR outputs more torque and RPM than the newer Next-Gen. 2000 vs 2400ftlbs. Additionally, the XTR is on sale for $99 AND comes with a 4Ah battery versus the 2Ah in this deal. Sorry OP, but the XTR is the better deal IMO.

Have this since "next Gen" came out... Still works... Not my primary but slim enough to be a close second - it gets a good beating. (Not powerful enough to remove wheel nuts or torquing them back, but that gives you an idea)

In theory, if it's not over tightened possibly, but that's not what this tools really made for. For what you want it for you might want to get a half inch impact. 2000 in-lb is about 167 ft lb so it's pretty underpowered to use for lug nuts on a car.

I ended up getting the 4 tool combo kit for $249 since you also get to choose 2 free tools and also includes this very impact gun. So for $249 I got a reciprocating saw, 1/4 impact, hammer drill, led flashlight, right angle impact, and a 1/2" impact, a 4ah battery and charger. I also bought an additional 2ah spare battery for $19 all for under $300.

Just a heads up there's a good amount of counterfeits of these around now. Doesn't hurt to weigh them to make sure you have the real deal.
