That older thread is for the Gateway Max, and this is the Cloud Gateway max. The differences I noticed are that this has 3gb memory instead of 2gb, a LCM display, and the SSD support, so I think it's a nicer device. Thanks for posting.

Your deal link goes to the Cloud Gateway Max (UCG-Max), not the Gateway Max (UXG-Max). As far as I can tell, the Could Gateway Max does everything the Gateway Max does, plus includes full UniFi application suite for device management, a display, and SSD support, yet the pricing is the same.

Your link to the previous deal is for the Gateway Max.

of course duh!! thanks. Obviously i was waiting for the UCG-Max.. no reason to buy the UXG-Max now.. Fixed the OP. So this is indeed the first time this is coming into full availabiity, and also simultanously having the tray in stock so one can order both for one shipping cost of $10.

Yes. This is a great all-in-one device, with everything but POE ports.

If you don't need UniFi protect then the cloud gateway ultra is a steal at $130.

Would this be a functional replacement for something like the USG 3P?

How would this compare to the UDM-Pro? I already bought the Switch 16 PoE Pro Max that is rack-mounted

If you don't need nvr, the cloud gateway ultra is a cheaper replacement

The cloud gateway max has been in stock 11 days at the US UI store just this month alone so no, it hasn't been "out of stock a long time…"

This is more compact version. Its more on par with USG than with UDM pro. Good for smaller desktop setups where space is issue. The UDM pro is good choice and what I am running for 2 years now and its solid. There is UDM pro max available now with the addition features

<EDITED FOR ACCURACY>

The UXG is effectively a UXG with the could controller built in. if you already have a cloud key (UCK) then you could eliminate it by getting this or keep it and use a UXG.

personally, I've been using an UCK for years, so when it was time to add a new site I upgraded my USG with the UXG and simply added a second UXG at the second site The new features and capabilities are significant.

Any reason to upgrade from edge router 4 for home use? I get 900 up and down on 1 gig service for my hard wired devices. While I can't use the newer software for this older router , I'm not seeing a reason to make the jump

It cannot be repeated enough: If you buy it with "No storage," you cannot add your own storage without the $20 tray ($5 of value). They're essentially punishing you for not buying their overpriced storage.

This is not an 'uograde' from the UXG, it is a different use case.

Someone may correct me, but the big difference I understand is that a UXG is used with either Cloud hosting OR private hosting. This is a Cloud Gateway, which means that you are locking into using Unifi to host your controller (i.e. a monthly payment).

So you either get UXG and manage the controller yourself, whether through a UCK (additional cash outlay) or your own hosted software (additional monthly hassle), or you get a UCG and have a monthly payment instead.

personally, I've been using an UCK for years, so when it was time to upgrade my USG I went with the UXG. The new features and capabilities are significant.
All Cloud Gateways (Ultra and Max) have the controller software built in, like you said; because of that, you don't need any sort of monthly payment to maintain it, contrary to what you also said.

UX products are the ones that either need to rely on Unifi Hosting, or need a separate device that has the controller software. Since you already had a UCK - the Cloud Key (for the people reading this who have no idea what we're talking about) with the controller built in to it - on your network, when you bought your UXG, the UCK did the controlling for you.

The Cloud Gateway products just do what you do, but in one product.
