A Costco membership is $65 a year. An Executive Membership is an additional $65 upgrade fee a year. Each membership includes one free Household Card. May be subject to sales tax. Costco accepts all Visa® cards, as well as cash, checks, debit/ATM cards, EBT, and Costco Shop Cards. Departments and product selection may vary. Since I "trust" Groupon a little more, I told my elderly neighbor to use Groupon. Showed her how to get a one-time virtual credit card number to avoid getting charged random stuff by Groupon in the future. (also to avoid the possibility of getting auto-renewed by Costco next year... which is what Sam's Club likes to do if they have your credit card # on file)
She signed up and paid the $65 on Groupon's website yesterday. The credit card was immediately charged $65. A minute later, Groupon sent a confirmation email. About 5 minutes after that, Costco sent an email directly(from a Costco @costco.com email address) thanking her for joining. The email also contained her new Costco membership number. She used that memberrship number and registered for a new Costco.com account. It worked immediately and accepted the new membership.
Groupon's page says that the $45 Costco gift cash card will arrive in about 10 days... will update this once my neighbor tells me she receives it in her email.
(note: I used to let her use my company-issued Costco card to shop because Costco gave us membership cards with no photos for some odd reason... sometimes I even accompany her, but I can't always go with her. my nearest Costco just started doing the card scanning at the entrance door... so my elderly neighbor needs her own membership now)

I used all the same personal info as my expired card and existing online account. Nevertheless, Costco sent the 'Welcome' email and a NEW membership number. It was only a couple of days ago, so I can't say I've got the $45 GC at this point. Fingers crossed.
Update 12/30: Okay, I got the Shop Card this AM. Signed up with Groupon the 17th. I just now used it with no issues.

I WAS SUPPOSED TO RECEIVE A DIGITAL SHOP CARD FROM COSTCO, BUT IT HAS NOT ARRIVED. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
