This is Anbernic's budget version of the Cube and their answer to Powkiddy's very popular RGB30 - which was a nice handheld but suffered from poor quality control and some weird charging/battery issues. Retro Game Corps is an AMAZING resource. I have two anbernic devices and a deck so I am chanting "I don't need this" in my head right now.

My advice is to not get the ones that come preloaded with games. I got one... then eventually dumped it and made a card with Emulation Station on it and my own roms. SO much better.

If you already own an RG35XX H then the CubeXX has the same performance since they both contain the Allwinner H700 chip. However, the screen on the CubeXX is what mainly lets it stand out between the 2.

This is Anbernic's budget version of the Cube and their answer to Powkiddy's very popular RGB30 - which was a nice handheld but suffered from poor quality control and some weird charging/battery issues. Retro Game Corps is an AMAZING resource. I have two anbernic devices and a deck so I am chanting "I don't need this" in my head right now.

My advice is to not get the ones that come preloaded with games. I got one... then eventually dumped it and made a card with Emulation Station on it and my own roms. SO much better.

their product names are all over the place, at first I thought it had an RG cube-similar chip with a larger screen, its much weaker. RGcube capable of playing PS2/GC/Wii

Is anyone else concerned that these handhelds will be nonfunctional in 5 years because of the batteries? I already barely play my PSP because on the occasions I pull it out, the battery is bulging or won't charge, and that battery is meant to be replaceable unlike these.

Anbernic is pumping these handhelds out like crazy. This one is 1:1 so better for something like SNES 8:7 and DS which can take advantage of the vertical height.

I would recommend waiting until 11/11 if you are OK with AliExpress since that is China's "Black Friday". Prices will be very low. Combine that with Crownpuff's amazing deal sheet and you could save a lot...

I haven't checked a teardown on this specific device, but replacing the battery in the other Anbernic devices in the H700 family is as easy as undoing the backplate screws and unplugging the battery. You will want to add an adhesive so the replacement battery stays in place, but it should be that easy. The whole thing should take under a minute.

This won't do Gamecube, correct? Get the regular Anbernic Cube for that?

How is this screen ratio for most MAME arcade games?

If that's the case, might as well wait for the rgb30 to go on sale for around 60. 11.11 is coming up.

No GameCube. Don't expect anything under 150 to do GameCube, and really you'll want to spend 200 to get decent performance for most of GCs library.

Aspect ratio on this won't do most mame games great but it's able to do vertical shmups better than horizontal screen devices.
