All recent reviewers mention dead batteries out of the box. And having a hard time with CS to exchange for a new battery. Easy pass

This was the sale that just went on recently. Lots of discussions. I got one. Battery was perfectly fine and still had the 1 bar of shipping charge. Replaced my old 320psi 18V model with it.

I bought it a week ago at this price. It arrived with a dead battery, which is apparently a common problem with this set. Apparently the battery was manufactured in January 2022.
The good news is that it is fairly easy to register the tool and battery on their website. Then on the same website you can request a repair/replace battery.

I just did that 10 minutes ago and got an email confirming the replacement battery (email was in spam folder).
Assuming all works out, I am happy to have the tool and a replacement new battery.

It takes less than 2 minutes to fix the battery issue if you have working Ryobi battery.
I got two wires, connect for 1 min or less + to + and - to - with both working and not working batteries, place the battery on charger and you are good to go.

There is a video of same but it very simple.

This is true, but then you have an almost 3 year old battery. I would rather go through the hassle of mailing the dead battery and receive a new battery as a replacement. To each their own.

In case you are wondering, I did check the voltage of the dead battery and it was 1.5V and would not charge.

I found this yesterday, and the first one i bought had a bad battery. I brought it back and they gave me another. I only wanted the battery anyway, so the tool is just a bonus. I will register my battery and be ready if it goes bad. Thanks for the tip.

Picked one up early last week and it had a bad battery. I have already sent the battery back for a replacement and it has been received by Ryobi. Now waiting for them to ship out the replacement. I would not buy one if you need it right away. Chances are good the battery will be bad according to online reviews and other SDer's reports.

I "replaced" two batteries under warranty. Ryobi just sent me the new battery w/o taking the old ones back.
I don't know if thats the standard process.

I just picked up one of these in Idaho, so the deal is apparently still alive in some areas. I will test our the battery tonight to make sure it's not a dud.

Edit: battery is dead on arrival.

I was able to purchase one on 10/24/24. The original battery was DOA. Battery status light would not even come on. It took 8 weeks for Ryobi to send an replacement battery. The replacement battery(10/22) was also dead on arrival. CS representative adamantly said I have to go through Rapid Repair again for replacement of the defective replacement battery. Going to exceed the Home Depot 90 days return window. is it worth all this trouble?

In past years they replaced two batteries, one for my 40v trimmer and another for a blower without asking for the old ones back (within the 3 year warrantee). Mine batteries had an internal reset button if you take the battery apart, one old one worked after reset, another had a dead cell which prevented the turbo mode from working on the blower but it still was usable after the reset. As another post noted you can parallel jump the battery I've heard, but I have not tried that myself but seen it done on other brands. I'd suggest wearing safety glasses and gloves if you try it. I have learned that once my trimmer stops from a discharge it may recover enough charge if you wait a few minutes BUT DON"T DO THAT. I found this practice can drain the voltage below the level that will trigger a bad battery when attempting to change it and it can also damage the battery. Once my tool stops due to discharge I put the battery on the charge immediately. As for this deal, I would buy it just to have an extra battery (maybe two if need a replacement and they don't ask for the old one and you can reset i). Unfortunatly I checked all the stores in my area and all are out of stock.
Edit: I would not attempt to take the battery apart to check for the reset button unless you received a replacement and they let you keep the old battery or you have an out of warrantee battery. Ryobi may refuse to do a warranty replacment if they detect you took the battery apart.
