This is a solid gaming laptop a great price. It uses an older CPU and GPU, so those looking for DLSS and ray tracing performance in games should look for a 4060/4070 GPU, probably at a higher price point.
Good QHD gaming performance. Excellent FPS at FHD.
CPU can be overclocked if you have adequate cooling.
32GB DDR5 RAM, upgradeable.
Good QHD screen for anything other than full sunlight.
USB-C with PD and DP.
Battery life is decent for these components at 7.5Hrs light use or 2Hrs of gaming.
Cons:
Older components are more power hungry than newer CPUs/GPUs.
CPU: Ryzen 9 CPU is Zen3+, we are now on Zen5 with significant advances.
Apps with AI workloads will work with the 3070ti, but draw a lot of power compared to newer machines with an APU.
GPU: 3070ti 8GB DDR6 RAM is missing DLSS of a 40XX series GPU. Max-Q may mean lower power
No USB-C 4.0. USB-C 3.2 has a 10GBPS max signaling rate.
5.16 lbs weight is not super portable.
If you want a performant gaming laptop with a nice screen and solid build quality and this is the top of your budget, then this laptop will get the job done for most games out there right now. You can also upgrade the RAM and overclock the CPU for enthusiasts. I would consider this a slick deal in the $750-$800 range, especially for a refurbished laptop.
If you can spend up to $1,331 there's a Lenovo Legion 7i with a Intel Core i9-13900H CPU and a 4070 GPU on SD right now that will be more future proof than this laptop when NVidia comes out with the 50XX series GPUs. I have also seen laptops with 4070 GPUs and AMD 8840HS CPUs refurbished for around $1,000-$1,200 which I would recommend over this laptop.
