#1- it is garage ready, but only for freezer mode not for Refrigerator mode. It would probably be fine for garages in the southern states or people with heated garages but it's not rated for garage refrigerator use in climates that get below freezing.
#2- The door is not switchable, probably not a huge deal to most but as one of the previous posters stated he bought 2 to go right next to each other and in that scenario it would be nice to hinge one of them differently.
#3- Reviews state that these Hisense Freezers are especially prone to tripping GFCI outlets. Unfortunately The national Electric Code calls for Garage outlets to be GFCI protected, so Most Homes built in the last 20yrs will only have GFCI protected outlets in the garage. So if you plan on putting this in the Garage you may have issues or need to swap out your GFCI outlet for a normal outlet. Most residential Electricians recommend not putting Freezers/refrigerators on GFCI outlets because they're prone to tripping GFCI outlets. They do make special GFCI outlets that are supposedly more resistant to tripping with freezers, but I have no idea if they work or not.
I bought one last night at our Local Costco for $350 but haven't picked it up yet. After reading some of the Reviews I'm debating on whether it's worth rolling the dice on this or not. There a lot of bad reviews of these dying early deaths, door seal issues, GFCI issues and next to no Hisense warranty support after the 90day Costco return period is over. The price is great, but the reviews have me hesitant.
Your garage gets down to -1 degrees ? I'm looking to use this as a freezer and leave it in my backyard deck. It gets in the mid 20s sometimes at night during the winter . Would this freezer still be running when it's freezing cold outside
I just started looking at this because the larger one is on sale online, delivered for $500 . There is a SD thread. I prefer this smaller one but online its $579, ouch.
