end of 2022/beginning of 2023 was when the firmware went out
Thanks. If I don't update, is losing the data on the ssd the worst outcome? Can then fix the firmware later if it has issues?

no, it has to be PC based (and external enclosures don't work. it has to be plugged into the PCI-E M.2 bus to work)
Thanks for the heads up. I was just looking for an enclosure.

I was able to get them to reorder the 2tb and apply a $50 credit, so wasn't a total waste.
what'd you say to the chat rep?

Told them I received the wrong item. Their only option was to return the item and reorder. I told them the price increased by $50 and they said as a one time courtesy since I'm such a wonderful customer they would refund the difference. Got the 2tb one delivered this morning, reached back out to them and they refunded the $50.

This was $89 yesterday 😂😂

Clearly, I understand that thread was a steamy pile....
Did you order it? I read that it was a mislabeled 1 TB. Curious to know if anyone that orderdd it got the 2 TB version.

Everyone got 1TB sticks but I think most who have reached out to CS have had partial refunds or received discounts on reordered 2tb models.

So no way to do it through PS5?
if you have an old computer a cheap pci-e 1/4x to m.2 adapter is like $5, saves from having to mess with main rig which is a pain as m.2 slots can be hard to access.

Aw not even a Mac with thunderbolt 3 enclosure that does direct PCIe link… no love for Macs

Got a 4tb 990 pro last year from Samsung sale with a VISA deal for $170ish. So this seems not like much of a deal.

I just got off chat with CS, I have to send the 1TB back, I ordered the 2TB at $140, and they credited me back $50 after I ordered. Took about 20 minutes for them to figure it out. Good luck!

I think that was the 980 Evo, not Pro.

890 had a firmware issue with data loss. Upgrade firmware asap if you buy this item
I had a 2TB 980 PRO die on me in less than a year, even after I updated the firmware. Samsung honored the warranty and requested to send the unit to them. But instead of repairing it, they sent me a brand new 2TB 990 PRO.

sorry for your data loss. I heard bad firmware was causing data corruption.

hopefully it is fixed now for all 980 pro.

good on samsung to give you newer 990 pro.

When It comes to SSD, IMO Samsung is the king.

Yeah, sadly those who ordered are all receiving the 1TB model. I almost fell for it but saw the description/model and decided it wasn't worth the hassle.
Was pretty easy to chat and get the refund on a 2TB. Was minimal for $50 off
