So you are forced to pay more for the older version. Corporate greed, etc. I'm not sure what the physical difference is, though. Might be worth a try and return if incompatible or a basic search of the reviews.

It would be beneficial for the company to use the same filter, they wouldn't intentionally make it so it needs another filter type.
