Not really sure what I'd need for what I'd consider a medium sized tree.

We get a 7' tree each year and use 2 sets of 600 lights. We like a densely lit tree though. You could probably get by with 2x 450 stands. Definitely get the +W version.

Multiple sets can be coordinated to work like a single large set however they cannot plug in end to end.

This is a great deal. I'd buy two for your tree. We have a Christmas tree with the pre strung twinklys and it sucks - they cheap out and use the non +W model so you don't get good white. I'm tempted to buy two strands of this and just throw them on top anyway
