In general, no.

By nature of you even asking the question, the answer to this kind of question will always be no, nobody can explain this to you in a way that will make sense. It's like asking why someone would pay a lot for steak when you could just eat ramen. You'll never be able to explain to that person why something is "better" if they've reduced the value of the item to merely being "food".

This isn't meant to be insulting, if you have a $15 backpack and are happy with it, live your life. There is no reason to wonder why anybody else spends what they spend on theirs.
Smokin deal. This price only happens a few times/yr...meaning 2 or 3 times so I wouldn't wait if you're on the hunt for this backpack. FWIW, I love mine. Been using it for both work and family travel since it was released. It's waterproof (with waterproof zippers) so it keeps your laptop safe in the rain (I can personally vouch for this), can handle 2-3 days of clothes for short trips (fits 2 Nomatic medium packing cubes), magnetic bottle holders so they "stick" to the side of the backpack even after they're stretched out, has a separate sleeve for shoes/sandals, fits my work 16" m3 macbook pro easily, and even when fully loaded it always sits upright. Always. Once you realize how handy that little design perk is you never want to go back. You can always do a drive by and scoop it up by the top handle without fail. And last, it fits under airplane seats without an issue. For travel purposes, I can't imagine a better backpack.
4+ lbs for a 20L bag is pretty heavy. This is a bag for travel, and when you carry it around all day, every ounce of weight matters.

The weight is the only thing off putting for me especially with certain airlines they are strict with the 7kg carry on limit

Thank you for this great detailed review. I've been trying to choose between this exact one and the Aer travelpack 3. My use case is for only air travel and probably put it under the seat most of the time.

As someone who is...clumsy or easily scratches up stuff, do you think the outer material is strong enough to handle scratches? I've scratched shoes when putting my feet under the seat on a plane 😔

I always stores my Aer TP2 in the bin above. What I usually do is have a small must have items in a pouch for use at my seat. I also take out the ipad/laptop during the flight if I need it. I don't recalled the last time I have something in the footwell on a flight.

So tempted to try this for an EDC work bag but already have the Aer City Pack and Aer City Pro. Someone talk me into getting this.
Things in the AER City Pack Pro: Laptop, Sony XM5, Notebook, and a lunch box. Can't fit anything else in the main compartment (sweater, jackets) unless I want lots of wrinkles on them.

Am I missing something. Is this brand named differently in the UK? Your last link is for GOMATIC.

Wow. Great response. Can you do one now for "Why are Arizona Ice Teas so cheap when other beverages are so expensive?"

It should be fine for that purpose. I usually put the bag under the seat for domestic flights. I'm not purposefully careful with it and the bag looks fine. I think it would take something fairly sharp to scratch it.

Also, the shoulder straps can slide into the luggage sleeve area so the backpack turns into a neat rectangle to slide under the seat. There are handles on the sides so it's easy to grab when the straps are folded in.

I have been using this for past 3 months. I am frequent traveler and I use this heavily.
I always keep it in expanded state.
Top quality fit and finish.
Can hold two laptops/
Numerous pockets and storage compartments
Water resistant exterior

HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
If you are on the fence, BUY IT

Anyone has this can recommend this? I am watching their youtube overview and looks promising. $154.99 with no tax is definitely tempting. Wonder if 20L is too big for daily use.

Tried to buy a bunch for christmas gifts and the order was cancelled 10 minutes after I placed it. I guess they only want quantities of 1!
They probably thought you are a reseller.
