To continue the tradition, I might as well start the thread now.

Black Friday is a great time of the year... for the retailers to get rid of old overpriced stuff that no one wanted to buy during the year. Don't let them fool ya. Oh no!

So post here if you're disappointed with what you see and think that the deals suck this year. Just like they did last year, the year before that, the year before the year before ...

Man, I miss the Staples deals. I still have a framed receipt of some RAM I got delivered for $0.03.

I like that COVID got rid of stores opening on Thursdays.

Honestly is black friday even a thing anymore? It's felt more and more dead each year, but now they aren't even releasing ads for black friday? Most retailers literally have no ad and it's less than a week away, others call them previews and split into multiple sales and still haven't said what the actual deals will be for black friday or even that week. Even if there's something I'd want it doesn't feel really worth the hassle with no clear advertising or information out there.

Sorry Jeff, didn't mean to break the streak. I was just bored, depressed and didn't watch anything on TV. It was a low hanging fruit to come looking for a Black Friday sucks thread. Maybe you're even worse off than me and that's why it took you so long :-)

But if age is an excuse to pass the torch on, you picked the wrong fella. I might be the oldest guy in this forum. Heck, I was already one of the oldest ones 20 years ago and I expect that some of the older ones back them can't type anymore due to arthritis or senility. Either that or they found a deal too good to resist in heaven Wink

Hey, no shame in taking the low-hanging fruit!. As for being the oldest guy here, I'll take your word for it, but I have to admit, the mental image of past Slickdealers succumbing to arthritis or scoring a 'Buy 1, Get 1 Halo' deal upstairs had me laughing

Here's hoping we stick around long enough to see the first AI-powered Black Friday thread complaining that they got nothing out of the sales. Until then, lets keep grumbling..!!

Let's not forget to mention how SD turned into something else. It's not really for the community anymore.

This year 2024 Black Friday marks the severe downfall of any good or reasonable deals, and it's going to get worse next year. The #1 killer is Walmart no longer offers any 43" TV for $98 anymore. It replaces with a 50" for $138, which I don't think is a good deal at all. Another is Target raised the price of the HP 17" laptop from $199.99 to $249.99 this year with same specs. Target no longer offers any Black Friday two-day deal, replacing it now with a 7-day Black Friday weekly ad.

I'd love to hear some of the more... seasoned SDers reminisce and tell stories of Black Fridays of old.

Like the time I stayed up all night with my bf now husband to get the following:
2 Laptops with FREE printer, software @ CompUsa
Mio for free @ Compusa
2 TVs, one for free @ CompUSA
2 Tivos, both free @ Best Buy (or Frys, can't remember)
2 Digital camers plus photo paper free @ Frys
2 MORE TVS (one free) at Frys
4 Flip knives all free @ OSH
Firepit for $10 @ OSH
Weber charcoal grill for $25 @OSH
A F*CKTON of toddler toys for my nephews @ TOysRUs for less than $50.
A house full of small appliances (FAR) and towels and sheets. Kohls and Macys. Everything less than $100.
Then my Mom took us out to a posh late breakfast at the Farmer's Market.
I ended up getting SUPER SICK from being chilled, but we did most online shopping and then did store pickup (first year for that for most stores).
THEN we had a 5 page long Excel spreadsheet tracking all the rebates to make sure our FAR stuff was TRULY FAR.
Maybe 18 years ago. It was EPIC though.
Never did the tent campout and always got what I wanted.

As always, the Lowes Facebook gift a thon was PEAK Slick deals and BF for me.

TLDR: Lowes would post something on facebook, you would get a 90% coupon if you were fast for whatever item it was. Some of them were big ticket items, 1000 dollar water heater, 200 dollar mixer, etc etc..

I personally won so many 90% off coupons I started giving them away ... trading them.. etc.. the best part was the comments on facebook from people who didn't realize how the game even worked.. the second best part was when slick dealers realized you could get the coupon twice by redeeming them at the same exact time, if you used your phone to do one and your computer to do another.

My mom still loves her 90% off kitchen aid mixer... someone got a free bathroom sink from me... people were giving away water heaters, etc.. it was THE best.

Then they did it again at Christmas!

I would just like to say that I appreciate the use of the words "Is Suck," in the thread title.

"Buy.com is suck" I believe was the original usage of this term.
