Also interesting is that there are different versions for the M1 and M2 Studios. I wonder what this means for the Mac Mini M4.
I did order from expercom which has no shipping and no tax. $547 to SC.

I wouldn't do the EDU discount unless you're a student.

Even Apple store employees have pointed out to me that you can order from the educational store and they don't check. It's very far from an open secret that it's not enforced.
They've mentioned that at more than one Apple store to me, so clearly even as policy they aren't actively discouraging it.
Instead of venting go to a retailer and price match. Problem solved. Apple EDU doesn't have the best prices on the internet.

the good news for those of us who live in high sales tax areas means we can buy from apple stores in other cheaper (or even free) locations.

I'm not following your response. Bottom line if you buy a more expensive Mac Mini, MicroCenter's pricing is cheaper. Go to a Best Buy and have them PM, MicroCenter's price. There are many people who plan on buying going a different config over the M4/16/256 base model.
