I got this for a family member for $300ish with the Microcenter coupon deal. The screen is absolutely perfect, but fan is a little loud. Still worth it at this price IMHO

Overkill, but yes. Should last a very, very long time if taken care of.

Do they really charge a restocking fee if you return this? The fine print at the bottom of the listing seems like a hassle.

Yes. I own this unit for about a year now.
Yes, it does get hot and loud when you connect the charger. (It goes into higher performance mode) Make sure you turn on silent mode in the asus control center when you plug in.
Other than that, this is a nice machine.

Even at silent mode, it is still fast without slowing down

I would say this easily especially since I don't know this price point for m1 can be had.

My elementary school age kids use Chromebooks at school, which can often be had cheaper than this and may have longer battery life since OLED while beautiful will suck battery.

Would've been an intriguing option for me if it had a touch panel. Great specs for the price - just add a cheap 8gb ddr4 sodimm to get to an even 16gb ram.

I never understood the memory configuration.... If dual channel, then a 8 GB and 32 GB module breaks dual channel. So, optimum performance is another 8 GB module, but only a total of 16 GBs... ??!!??!! Confused
