It's a hobby, it all boils down to what you're willing to spend to go further down that rabbit hole. I can definitely see how someone would think spending this much is crazy. I think the same about a lot of other people's hobbies.
It is a hard concept to grasp that not everyone has the same hobbies and spending habits as you, huh?
If your TVs utilize Dolby vision the answer is yes. Playing directly from disc is worlds above streaming. Some upgrades for some movies even from 1080p discs have been mind blowing.

Free returns until January 31, you might as well 🤷 ♂️

Lowest historical price I can recall was about $320+tax for a new one from b&h. I'm in the market for this as well so I guess I'm going with your strategy to buy and think later

I know I'm going to get a lot of flack for this and I am naive so go easy on me. Is the quality difference really worth a $400 player and $20 (or whatever the cost) per disk? I have a 65"LG C9 OLED and a 77" Samsung S89C and I just find it hard to believe that it could be worth the investment and that earth shattering. Perhaps for a different (better - 8k?) setup? Again apologies for my naiveness (looked it up and it is a word)

Yes I can get disc is better than streaming and I have seen it. Always wanted to invest in a 4K blu-ray but decided against when we had kids (for obvious reasons). Probably better with hifi sound setup I imagine too

It's the same conversation as the "creature comforts" of higher trim vehicles. The mechanical builds are typically the same.

Very subjective.

I certainly find it worth it but I honestly understand why many don't.

I don't understand why people spend money on a lot of other things.

I have some UHD discs that are impressive with HDR and some that don't look that much better than streaming. It does vary and the improvements are there most of the time but can be subtle. If you are happy with what you are getting from streaming then I can't really make an argument to invest in a format like UHD that hasn't had new players put on the market in 4 or 5 years.

8K is just a marketing gimmick IMO. There is no 8K content and I doubt there will ever be 8K discs when the 4K ones struggle so much to stay relevant.

Yes. Uncompressed atmos from disc on even a soundbar is impressive. Go big with home theater sound and it's mind blowing.
