Depends a lot on the game. Open world and sim games get a massive performance bump from the cache, regardless of resolution and GPU.

Also GPUs are so good now you can very easily be CPU bound even at 1440p, and occasionally 4k.

By "CPU bound," do you mean the difference between getting 350 fps, and 300 fps?

What I'm saying is, in the vast, vast majority of games, it's not going to be your CPU that's holding you back from getting a fluid and enjoyable gaming experience, and that paying a premium to get the latest CPU is going to be completely pointless for the vast, vast majority of gamers. Flight simulators might be one of the few exceptions.

Do I want this? Yes. Do I need this? You tell me. Current rig is almost 10 years old now with no upgrades between now and then: i5-6500, 16gb DDR4, B150i mobo, evga 1050 ti 4GB. All in a fractal define nano case. I haven't played pc games in 4 years now. I'm definitely due for an upgrade but my rig has been serving me well thus far.

My system is probably older. The only upgrades I did over the years were adding more ram, a newer video card, and some SSDs. I'm looking at building a completely new system just because I feel so left out. 😆

Just a heads up if this matters to anyone. Even though estimated ship is in January they wouldn't let me cancel the order. I found the cpu elsewhere for an earlier ship time and I tried to cancel and the automated system and support couldn't cancel

If you're near one, I would go there. I went today and they had 14+ at 11AM in Fairfax VA. I was able to grab one at around 1230 no hassle and they still had some left. It does run out within the day though, but not like when it was first available (within minutes).
