Earlier this year leaked documents revealed the extent of greed in the running shoe industry. Custom duty lists for the Swiss brand ON Running were obtained by a news publication in Switzerland. The documents showed the actual landed prices that ON pays its Vietnam contract manufacturer. Most ON models that sell for $200 and up cost ON between $21 and $24. The markup for each shoe model ranges from 10:1 at the "low" end to as high as 20:1.

I would expect that Asics, HOKA, and Adidas are no different.
Really? Here's the price for each of the last five models during primary run:

Nimbus 22 (2019) $150
Nimbus 23 (2020) $150
Nimbus 24 (2022) $150
Nimbus 25 (2023) $160
Nimbus 26 (2024) $160

If you're going to boycott a company because of a $10 (6.6%) increase over five generations in the span of five years, you'd need to boycott Hoka, Saucony, Nike, and just about everyone else for much bigger increases in that time.
I am waiting for Nimbus 25 at $80-$90 range.

I love the Gel Nimbus and have run 13 marathons in them. But I'm going to hold out for $99 or under.

My daily trainer for a decade. I've tried other brands (Hoka and Altra mostly along with Topo) and although the toe box isn't as big as Altra or Topo they are way more squishy. There aren't many shoes on the market that are as fluffy and cloudlike as the Nimbus l, nor that remain so for hundreds of miles. Amazing shoe for people looking for durable long lasting cloud like experience.

Now that I've secured a Nimbus 25 and 26, anyone know how these (Nimbus line) compare to the Kayano 31's? I have my eye on the dark blue Kayano 31, but it only comes in Wide, and not Extra Wide. I've heard they have a pretty wide toe box to begin with, so maybe its okay for those that need the wider space? I also know its a stabilization shoe, but I heard its still okay for those that don't need stabilization. Any experiences to share on the Kayano 31's compared to Nimbus?

Are these more durable than the Kayano's? I'm sick of how fast the Kayano's wear out on the ball of my foot.

15s for $90
17s for $100
21s for $70
23s for $70

$120 isn't a terrible price if you need them today, but this isn't in the "buy it for when I need it" range.

For those asking for comps: Kayano is a stability shoe for overpronation, Nimbus is neutral. Determine which you need then make the decision. The durability of the shoe will likely be similar but the location of where it is worn and comfort could be different based on your physiology. Wear them around the house for a bit to see what works for you.

Does anyone know if this price is about the same or cheaper than buying it in Japan locally? Heading there in a couple of months and planning on stopping by their flagship store in Harujuku.
Nah. I visited the Asics store in Osaka thinking I can get a nice price on Mexico 66, nope. Pricey, I could find them cheaper sitting on my butt from the internet.
