I had to read 1984 in college and couldn't get through it. Really didn't like Winston and felt like his entire character was rubbish paranoia. I re-read it a few years ago while on a Dystopian novel kick and I still don't like it for the same reasons. Winston feels unnaturally paranoid and the story feels like it railroads into the conclusion. Winston never felt like he had an actual agency in his character, never actually felt like a character.
