Not worth the premium. Some basic things regarding SSDs are,

Type of NAND. SLC, MLC, TLC, and QLC. Referring to the bits per cell. The less bits per cell the higher the TBW endurance rating, but also the more expensive. Most users won't ever reach the TBW. TLC and QLC are commonly found in consumer SSDs, while SLC and MLC is found in enterprise SSDs.
DRAM cache. This helps sustain R/W operations for large file transfers. Tom's Hardware has charts on SSD review articles showing the tapering off on SSDs without DRAM.
Only way I would pay a premium for a SSD with DRAM and better NAND is if I were using it in a NAS and transferring large files constantly. Even the boot times between the fastest and slowest NVME SSDs is within 3 seconds.
I'm going to buy this SSD for a Steam Deck.

Size 2230 in case not familar withthis one and "mini" doesnt cut it.
Also, QLC as this is the "CORE" edition instead of the MP600 Mini non-"Core" which uses TLC. both are without DRAM.

Genuine question here, why? I'm looking to upgrade my surface Pro 9. I am a real estate appraiser and I plan to move all my work software / data to the surface pro 9 and off my gaming laptop. I am just curious WHY the WD Black is better, and for my non-gaming needs, is it worth the premium?
It isn't. Outside of the potential reliability question, there is no reason why most people would notice any benefits of spending the extra $70. This should be fine for you.

This is a good deal for those who needs a 2030 drive. For example you can only fit 2030 in the steam deck IIRC. If your laptop can fit 2280 there are other good deals like the MSI drive.

I'm using it in the steam deck right now. Don't listen to people saying no dram. It doesn't even matter on the steam deck.

QLC is preferred for Steam Deck. It's one-sided and pretty cool.

Many people uses double-sided WD TLC only to find their SD overheat like crazy.

TLC does not mean double sided. 2 completely different things.

They are completely the same thing in the context of 2TB m.2 2230 SSD. You should have realized that if you've done bare minimum research.

To squeeze everything into 22mmx30mm, half of the area taken by controller, there's only a spot for single NAND chip. With current technology, it's either an 1TB TLC, or 2TB QLC.

IIRC the only drives that will work in an Xbox with the available adapters are the Seagate drives that MS originally choose to use. I don't believe there is any workaround currently, the Series X|S was a marked departure from the older consoles and ps5 where you can just swap it for standard hardware.

Yes it does. It's a killer price for 2TB. This is a commonly recommended model for the steam deck.

I use the 1TB with an external exclosure to unlock the ProRes camera function in the iPhone 15 and newer.
