$550 still seems steep for a last-gen watch. In the past, the previous gen fenix's went on sale in the $350 range. That may not happen again with inflation, but still surprised to see them in this range, especially with a bunch of strong competitors (Apply, Samsung, etc.) and it being the holiday period.

Would a Garmin fenix 7 Sapphire Solar 47mm Multisport GPS Smartwatch Black DLC Titanium with Black Band for sale at $449.99 ,be a better deal?

If I didnt already have a 965 I'd jump on this. Its pretty much the same as the newest fenix in terms of features, but with a MIP display (which some prefer). I think its missing like SCUBA or some silly thing compared to the fenix 8. Pretty great watch, rugged + solar and newest sensor. The only reason to get a F8 is for OLED.

It might fall a bit more, but I think Garmin is a little off the deep end with the fenix 8 prices. If this falls too much no one will spend $1K on a fenix 8.

I have a 965 because the fenix is a little too bulky to wear 24/7 IMO, but if you dont mind I'd buy it.

Its not "pro" - so it has an older sensor. Better deals can be had on that model.

I wasn't looking but saw this thread and did a very quick search. But thank you all for the feedback.

I have my share of Garmins and am wearing my Tactix Delta right now...

They had to discount the previous models that far because the new models started at $799. That's the price of the Fenix E now, a watch that nobody ever asked for. Fenix 8 starts at $999 so there's not that much pressure to lower the Fenix 7 below $450. I wouldn't even be surprised if it didn't go below $500 for Black Friday.

That said, as a Forerunner 965 owner I don't need to upgrade but if I had, it would definitely be the Fenix 7. Pricing for the Fenix 8 is absolutely insane. No idea who their target audience is but they've priced out most triathletes (like myself). That's a pretty big achievement considering the cost of everything related to Tri.

If you read that thread it looks like that was price mistake rather than a legit sale. The last several comments indicate plenty of orders were canceled.

This deal is still available. It's sapphire but not the "Pro", more than $100 cheaper, and many states don't get charged tax. I ordered from here and received. Holding off on opening the box (they charge 20% restock if opened) to see what BF brings.

It is really personal preference. Recommend you check out comparison videos. I just moved to EPIX 2 from an older MIP Forerunner. Love the AMOLED but since I turned off always on display to conserve battery, I do miss the "always on" display of forerunner

MIPS generally means longer battery life, but not always as bright as AMOLED

But, MIPS seems to get better reviews for visibility in bright outdoor sunny situations.
