I believe it's that extra cell that allows Flex to be more powerful while the tool is more compact than the equivalent Ryobi or Ridgid brushless wrenches. Cheaper too. Just one extra battery platform though.....

Just bought a dewalt set that's still unopened that will be going back with this taking its place. Hopefully making the right choice as I only intend on having 1 battery platform.
