It uses fluid to advance the anvil to create the impacts, so far less noise.

Do you think it won't last as long then? Hydraulics can eventually leak

Not really any data to base it on since it's a brand new tool and the first hydraulic impact Dewalt has made, but it could go either way based on the Milwaukee ones that have been out a lot longer. Their M18 hydraulic impact seems to have some issues and failures are more common with it, their M12 model (which is a little newer, but still been out for years) doesn't seem to have issues and failures are rare.

Thanks for providing some input. I don't use it enough that I would require the lower noise, so I'll either stick with my 840 or go with an 860. I don't really need an 860 but it's like I've become a collector 😂😂

As an owner of the M12 hydraulic for several years, the advantages include lower vibrations in addition to the lower noise. It's just a more comfortable tool to use. The Milwaukee hydraulics have a very significant decrement in performance compared to the standard sprung impacts. The published torques are very low, although this number can be a bit misleading since hydraulics provide a more sustained torque even though the peak is lower. However, all that to say that the initial testing on the DCF870 shows it to have surprisingly comparable performance to standard impacts. In fact, there are a couple of head-to-head reviews where it beats the DCF850 (same form factor) which used to be the king of compacts.

I want it, but I think I'll wait until it's included with one of the BOGO offers.

Was watching a video on it and the creator said these were hackable with 2 batteries at one time and you got the tool for $99, so I'm holding for that price 😀.

What do you mean hackable? I'm switching over to the dewalt family from ryobi and I could use batteries, and I really want this hydraulic impact.
