Have this. It's fine for small jobs, but the iron is low-powered; you have to be really patient with it.

Don't get these unless you want to feel like you suck at soldering. Spend a few bucks more for a pinecil or ts-100 off ali and you'll have a much better time

Ditto, for soldering small wires, repairing PCB's, etc it works fine. Takes a while to heat up through and there is no indicator to let you know when it reaches set point.

The wire stripper is pretty much useless.

Got this, tried to desolder some components from a PCB and this just could not melt the solder at all. Probably a project that needs a board warmer and higher power iron.

These might be a little bit better than the old school soldering irons I had with the screw set tips.

Then I went down the rabbit hole of soldering irons, and got a KSGER T12 from Aliexpress and an Sequre S99 USB soldering iron and wanting to try them on the beginning electronics kit I got from AE.

Do you have a link for either off AE? I looked up both and the pinecil is $30 and the ts-100 is $55? Not exactly a few bucks more

T12 soldering iron, like the KSGER mentioned above, is thousands mile better than the traditional iron. This is the cheaper one on AE : https://www.aliexpress.us/item/22...4itemAdapt

To begin with,
1) The tip will heat up from room temperature to 300C within 10 second !
2) The temperature setting is very accurate. For most of the controller, you can even calibrate the reading (+/- 10C)
3) Since it bring up the temperature so quick, when touching large metal area, it can compensate very quick.
4) There are about 30+ tip to choose from
5) Sleep function can extend the life of the tip
6) Anti static .........

For this cheaper model, < US$16, you do need a note book PC power supply or select the one with it for US$10 more.

I have bought this kit in the past when I did not know better and was getting started in soldering.
Complete junk.

As others have said, spend more and get better. There are even kits out there in the $20-$30 range that will be leagues better than this

That's a lot of stuff for $5.60. If you don't already have a soldering iron, just get one, when you need it, you'll be glad you bought it.
But if you want to spend a bit more, get one with a directly heated tip. I know the kind of soldering iron like the one in the deal, it takes a while to heat up. But better than no soldering iron.

These irons are all over AE. They take a long time to heat up. You can solder small parts but don't use the fine tip as it loses heat quickly. Use the bigger tips' edge.

As truckduck said, these are better than no soldering iron if you want to fix a quick thing. I have one these in a simple heat insert station for 3D printed parts.

I used this soldering iron for some energy monitoring devices at work that had at least 10+ wires to be soldered on each. It works just fine for applications like that.

I bought this years ago. Never used it. Glad I got rid of Prime because I was probably wasting money than saving it whenever I'd see these kinds of deals.
