I had this but in the Ryzen 9/4070 configuration. It is a massive beast, so don't plan on traveling at all with it (even around the house!). The screen is very punchy and vibrant, to the point where I hardly even noticed the lower brightness. Reminds me of screens on Razer Blades.

The 4070 had plenty of power for QHD gaming, but you might have to dial down some settings with the 4060. Battery was about 4-ish hours for regular non-gaming tasks. Overall, this is a very very good deal on the very very good laptop.

Hmm this or the 18" Helios for $883?

I see that this one has 2560x1440 screen while the 18" is 1900x1200...

Thinking of purchasing this for my son for Christmas. Does anyone think there might be a better bang for your buck deal during the holidays?

imo brightness & contrast // quality of the screen is more important than the resolution. 2560/1440 vs 1900/1200 not going to be much of a perceptible/meaningful difference, but brightness & contrasts, definitely..

I agree but the screens seem to otherwise be the same...

17.3" QHD (2560x1440) 16:9, 165Hz 3ms, 300-nits, 100% sRGB, Anti-glare, IPS Display, NVIDIA Advanced Optimus and NVIDIA G-SYNC

vs

18" FHD+ (1920 x 1200, WUXGA+) 16:10, 165Hz, 300-nits, 100% sRGB, Anti-glare, IPS Display

The 18 is also 1lb heavier and 2.5 inches deeper.

what does it mean " The screen is very punchy"? is that a new Alpha gen term?

Punchy colors, which makes sense considering the color accuracy. Gen alpha are all kids btw...and it's not an alpha term.

Vibrant, deep, pleasing to the eye...Movies and games look very sharp with excellent colors. Dark scenes could be brighter, for sure. But I think it's overall about as nice as you can get in this price range. For example: there's an HP Victus with RTX 4060 and 62.5% sRGB accuracy for $700 that pops up at Micro Center from time to time. The Acer 17's screen will blow that away.
