Unfortunately these are what, 4+ years old now? They're one of the worst headsets I've ever used and actually got worse with each firmware update.

The subreddit dedicated to Astro has tons of complaints about these headphones from the headband failing with time, to constant disconnection issues, charging mechanism failing, etc.

Reviews are 4.2/5.0. I would expect better fro $150 on sale. Anyone have this? Thoughts?

I have it. Overall it's good. I had A40s before this, which are very similar but wired, the headband fell apart on me. Still usable but not ideal. The headband on this feels similar, so I just treat it with kid gloves. No issues with that yet. It does disconnect sometimes, not often (less than once a week? Maybe once a month, idk), I just unplug it and plug it back in and it works again. I've had no issues with the charging aspect. For the original price, probably not worth it. For this price it might be, although I haven't used any other headset in many years. Wireless aspect is nice and it has a long range.

I'll second that. I had a previous gen wired model. Could never get the software to work right beyond simple stereo sound. There was a weak spot on the earmuffs where they attached to the band and swiveled. They broke just from setting them on my desk. Never again.

Wonder if they cut corners on successive versions. Have older A40 and A50, it's like people are describing a completely different headset here. No issues, certainly no build quality issues. Pretty robust, actually.

Thanks! Literally am buying a set today and was considering these. Removing these from my options 👍.

What do you feel is a better choice over these bc I really want supreme comfort

Since I play extended sessions comfort is the most important to me, 2nd sound and 3er mic, chat/game volume balance is a must for me, I tried many brands and my top 2 are Astro A50 gen 3 and Inzone H9 (I'm tempted to upgrade to this).. If Budget is a problem try ebay I got my H9 for $70 bidding. I would say you will be good with either.

If you got this Astro for PS5 you might need the ps adapter(cost around $30 on ebay) otherwise you will lose presets better sound and chat/game balance, if you got lost just search on yt, is not that hard and you will need to do it just the first time

I use the A50 X after throwing out my A50's due to them no longer charging and nonstop disconnecting. Haven't had any issues with them yet.

HyperX Cloud gets my vote. I game with glasses on and even after a whole day of gaming, no hot spots anywhere. Ear cups are large enough to fit my entire ear inside with nothing pushing on them, the arms of the glasses don't get squished into the side of my head, the headband is very plush and holds weight well.

will you buy this new for 150 or a50 X refurbish for 180?? is it worth the upgrade to pay extra? currently have a50 gen 3 for PS5 and looking to upgrade, my top priorities confort, hearing steps for FSP and mic to communicate with my squad

I bought a used (ebay) A50 about a year ago. The headset has been great but it definitely has a few issues.

I had to manually update the firmware to the headset to fix software communication issues. This wasn't hard to do but it's not straightforward, either. I wouldn't expect a normal consumer to be able to do this.

The headband does fail. It flexes too much and the screws inevitably pop out every 2 months. I have 2 zip ties on my headband but I look like an alien now so it's cool.

The microphone quality is lacking. There's no way to increase bitrate for it, but the excuse is that this is to preserve battery life.

I bought the latest AX50s (arriving tomorrow) and am looking forward to improvements in all of these areas.

the a50x (based on many reviews) will be greatly improved from this model. if youre spending 150, spend 180.
