Some reviews say the regular is a bargain for the performance but if you need the extra performance, the M4 Pro is worth the upgrade.

I know, I know, this is a common complaint, but my thinking/reasoning is a bit different;
I honestly just don't understand how Apple thinks this (latest-gen) laptop is even remotely competitive in todays laptop market EVEN against Apple's own offerings...
I mean, if 512gb is enough for a given buyer, then an M1, M2, or M3 is more than enough as well for those same buyers at about half the cost or less.
It's kinda gone from greed to just stupidity (IMHO)… Unless their goal is to push buyers towards Mac Mini's since 512GB is so small (that you'll need an external SSD), making the laptop far less portable…
I get the 'small drive logic' for the base model (at sub $1K) , but this is supposedly a PRO model… Who could need this minor bump in performance over a base model but not need more storage?
Perhaps the Pro is the sacrificial config to make the MAX more attractive? I really have no idea what Apple is thinking anymore.
