For $400 more, the 14" with the M4 Pro chip is $1799.
Some reviews say the regular is a bargain for the performance but if you need the extra performance, the M4 Pro is worth the upgrade.

Stick with it, I don't think this new model offers anything significantly improved compared to m3 pro

Sweet! I chatted with Best Buy and they are refunding me an additional $42 from the $1439 pricematch I did last week to micro center. Those of you who did the price match last week get your extra $ back!

Imo, yes. Unless you really need the 24gb of ram, you get a better screen, better speakers (seriously really good), to me a better keyboard, more ports, and a newer chip.
What about this for $1099? https://www.costco.com/macbook-ai...25217.html

A tougher call, honestly. I do love the weight of the Air, but I'm more spoiled by high refresh rate displays so sticking with 60 Hz bugs me, and the speakers on the Pro are incredible. The trickier thing for me is comparing this M3 Air with the M2 Air that was just on sale for $750 (and should be again in a week or so) - you're getting mostly the same experience just with less built-in storage, and you save an extra $350.

I'm using a 15" Macbook Air (M2/16gb), it's more than enough for most of my tasks, including lightweight video editing and photo editing. Two things make me want to upgrade to a 14" Macbook Pro: 1. being able to use 2 external monitors at the same time; 2. have usb-c on both sides. Smaller factor is a tiny plus.
Don't forget the 14.2" Liquid Retina XDR 3024x1964, 120Hz, 1000nits sustained display
PLUS: Apple's latest M4 MacBook Pro models have an unadvertised upgrade to their displays: quantum dot technology. This development, reported by display industry analyst Ross Young and corroborated by 9to5Mac, This is Apple's first use of quantum dot displays in their MacBook lineup.

They said they were not able to for me, how were you able to do this?

Man, they sure are making it difficult for me to decide…. Thought I was getting the M3 MacBook Air with 24GB memory for $1299 but now for another $100 I can get M4 MacBook Pro if I drop memory to 16GB…
I am leaning towards the M4 version and would prefer the M4 over the 24GB memory in my use case.

Will Apple price match this if I just bought it for $1499 with education discount? I'm still in the return window.
You may have to call them. They do perform price adjustments. If not you return and get this one. Costco offers second year warranty

I have one from 2013 and the updates stopped. Is the 1499 better one from a longevity or the 1799 going to use it for lot of documents , excel , vs code and movie making
Get the 1799 one, it could last you more than 6 years

Good deal.
Just curious, does anybody know if m4 base chip in this MacBook Pro would run a full 5120x1440 - 240Hz external display via usbC-DisplayPort cable ? Maybe m4 pro chip?

As FYI: I know in Apple world this is crazy sh*t when it comes to connecting non-Apple Hw to their systems, but other less expensive windows laptops using the same cable can deliver and M1 Pro chip on the other hand, simply can't, it goes up to 120Hz max.
If M4 chips can't do 240hz displays I would rather stay with late 2021 M1pro, it is still nice and smooth.
Thanks for posting!

Is it worth trading in my MacBook Pro M3 pro for this or stick with what I got?
Depends on your use case. If you use your laptop to work on AI stuff or 4K video rendering, then I would say difference is somewhat noticeable. Else it doesn't matter much, as personally I also use M3 Pro machine.

Probably not. Some folks are saying that if you have an M1 or older it might be a good time but anything newer is probably not worth it.

Worth upgrading from Macbook M1 Pro? Apple holds up for a while so nothing materially wrong, but probably more productive with a faster model.I don't do video editing or anything like that but I have tons of windows / tabs and applications open at most times and speed is everything for me with a lot of time sensitive things as my job.
I'm personally waiting on the M5 Pro but there are some good benchmarks here:

Nice! It's super tempting as this seems like the first time the gains make sense.

Quick question. Is this any faster than equivalent macbook air, considering it has cooling fan and should be able to squeeze more juice from the same chip?
