For $400 more, the 14" with the M4 Pro chip is $1799.
Some reviews say the regular is a bargain for the performance but if you need the extra performance, the M4 Pro is worth the upgrade.

Stick with it, I don't think this new model offers anything significantly improved compared to m3 pro

Sweet! I chatted with Best Buy and they are refunding me an additional $42 from the $1439 pricematch I did last week to micro center. Those of you who did the price match last week get your extra $ back!

Is it worth trading in my MacBook Pro M3 pro for this or stick with what I got?

Honestly not using for anything intensive, school work and consumption. No cpu or gpu intensive work. Probably going to get the oled when that releases in 2 years-3 anyways.

Wanting to get a MacBook Pro and waiting for Black Friday deal. Is this a better deal or need to wait until BF deals?

M3 Pro is faster in multitasking and gpu than this M4. Either way, the differences are negligible for most users.

I didn't check them all, just the pricier ones, but it looks like none of the models have the new nano-texture display. I've read a few reviews that indicate this feature significantly cuts down screen glare and is a must-have/well worth the $150 upgrade fee. Yes, you can crank up the brightness on the standard display to mitigate somewhat, but that will come at the cost of battery power (if you are working untethered to an outlet).

I'm using a 15" Macbook Air (M2/16gb), it's more than enough for most of my tasks, including lightweight video editing and photo editing. Two things make me want to upgrade to a 14" Macbook Pro: 1. being able to use 2 external monitors at the same time; 2. have usb-c on both sides. Smaller factor is a tiny plus.

Depends on where you're buying from. Best Buy is pretty good with price matching, so it's not like you'd miss out if a better deal popped up.

Yep, it looks like you'll have to buy from Apple to get that.

I hear that it ruins the color contrast and only worth it for the trade off if working outdoors or with a lot of light often

$1400 for a laptop with 512GB (non-upgradable) SSD…

I know, I know, this is a common complaint, but my thinking/reasoning is a bit different;

I honestly just don't understand how Apple thinks this (latest-gen) laptop is even remotely competitive in todays laptop market EVEN against Apple's own offerings...

I mean, if 512gb is enough for a given buyer, then an M1, M2, or M3 is more than enough as well for those same buyers at about half the cost or less.

It's kinda gone from greed to just stupidity (IMHO)… Unless their goal is to push buyers towards Mac Mini's since 512GB is so small (that you'll need an external SSD), making the laptop far less portable…

I get the 'small drive logic' for the base model (at sub $1K) , but this is supposedly a PRO model… Who could need this minor bump in performance over a base model but not need more storage?

Perhaps the Pro is the sacrificial config to make the MAX more attractive? I really have no idea what Apple is thinking anymore.
I think they know that the people who NEED the extra on board ssd will pay for it. For me, 512 is more than enough as I'm not working with large files and if I needed to store photos etc I would prefer an external one anyways. I agree though, bad pricing moddle
