I only wear Darn Tough socks as well, but I wear down (thread bare) 2 pairs per year.
They have an extremely high thread count that holds the wool very tightly. However the wool will eventually come out of the threads where your foot makes the most contact. Thread-bare is what they warranty.
It's nearly impossible to wear a hole in them unless your walking on pavement without shoes.
Their warranty covers thread bare, so I exchange about 6 pairs every 3 years.
The pricing on these has gotten out of control. Must be from all the people getting free pairs. I just ordered a pair of Levi's for less than what some of these cost.
Love the socks and the brand but pricing has made it very difficult to justify buying more when the ones I have just won't wear out... And would get exchanged if they ever do.
They cover return shipping but not shipping to them.
My plan when I bought mine was to save up a few holey pairs and ship them all together to warranty them all at once for a couple bucks, but I haven't actually had any of them wear out yet.

I finally had a pair have a thread come out after five years. (Which doesn't really tell you much). They have held their cushion far better than I expected.

Do they cover the cost of shipping for their warranty claims?

Their warranty page says they will honor any good faith warranty claims. I take that to mean that if I feel the sock is significantly degraded from its original quality they will replace it.

I had a foot surgery last year and to my surprise after that my regular socks, that lasted me months before were not lasting through one day - something in my walk has changed and now they were developing holes at the same spot on the heel. I decided to try DT socks thinking that at least I will be getting free replacements if they will last less than a month but to my surprise almost a year later but I'm still wearing them.
Socks are great but keep in mind that they are on a warm side.

I am hoping Darn Tough has a Black Friday sale of its own since I have about $70 in credit to use from a warranty claim. They are all I wear, and I usually get about 2 years of use before I get holes in them, but they honor their warranty, no questions asked.

i dont need 2 good pairs of socks. i need 20 pairs of socks so i dont have to do laundry
Wool is naturally anti-microbial. I can wear these for 2-3 days without them getting smelly at all. Like even with the fabric against my nostrils. I don't have super smelly feet to begin with, but my non-wool socks definitely have a smell after one day.
Wool is also temperature regulating, so they're warmer in the winter yet somehow also cooler in the summer.
And if you get the ones with cushioning, they're just so much more comfortable to be on your feet all day with these.
I've been slowly replacing all my socks with Darn Tough/Smart Wool. Never going back!

Lately, I've been buying motocross socks that go over my calf, but they are very thin but also very durable.
