They have an extremely high thread count that holds the wool very tightly. However the wool will eventually come out of the threads where your foot makes the most contact. Thread-bare is what they warranty.
It's nearly impossible to wear a hole in them unless your walking on pavement without shoes.
Their warranty covers thread bare, so I exchange about 6 pairs every 3 years.

Love the socks and the brand but pricing has made it very difficult to justify buying more when the ones I have just won't wear out... And would get exchanged if they ever do.
My plan when I bought mine was to save up a few holey pairs and ship them all together to warranty them all at once for a couple bucks, but I haven't actually had any of them wear out yet.

Socks are great but keep in mind that they are on a warm side.

Lately, I've been buying motocross socks that go over my calf, but they are very thin but also very durable.

Wool is also temperature regulating, so they're warmer in the winter yet somehow also cooler in the summer.
And if you get the ones with cushioning, they're just so much more comfortable to be on your feet all day with these.
I've been slowly replacing all my socks with Darn Tough/Smart Wool. Never going back!
