Good specs incluing the 2.5Gbps WAN/LAN Ports. I have the following questions:

1. Is the NETGEAR Armor necessary? What does it offer versus no subscription?
2. I am wary of these zero external antenna designs. How is the range of this one?

Yes, these designs all have internal antennas. That is the problem as they don't work as well as external antennas.

I bought this and very impressed with how well it works. I have a 2500 sq ft home and it works pretty much end-to-end with some coverage outside. Speeds are fantastic overall. I'm on a 2 gigabit fiber line

Does it work in a mesh configuration?

no - this is a single router unit. you could extend it with other hardware, but it is not a mesh-designed unit.

I replaced 3x Nest Wifi (non-pro) routers with this one unit at the center of my split-level home. I have been happy with the upgrade thus far. Note that it does not yet support multi-link operation, but Netgear has said on their forums that feature is being worked on for all their wifi 7 routers.
